Good buy? Savage MSR-15 Recon?

Not a bad choice, and really good size. Buddy of mine just bought one and the biggest surprise was that it came with a 2-stage trigger and a Gen 2 30/5 PMAG. I'd say its worth it.

I have one. Bought it a year ago when they came out. Honestly, for the price you can't get anything as good right now on the market. The one criticism I have is the iron sights SUCK, but it seems like the 2.0 or whatever they call it has Magpul MBUS now so that's a good thing.

Mid-length refers to the gas tube length, longer than carbine (like the M&P15) but shorter than rifle (a full-size 20" rifle). Mid-length gives you a softer recoiling rifle and theoretically more reliable. The 5R rifling is a type of rifling that improves accuracy and barrel life, see this article by Faxon -> https://faxonfirearms.com/blog/what-and-why-5r-rifling/.

I have the mossberg equivalent and id say they are both good. I am 100% satisfied with the mossberg mmr rifle, i saw the savage as well and id take either, just tenda had a incredible 1 day price on the mossbergs 2018 boxing day. I have not seen the savage's for even close to the same price I'd definitely recommend the savage etc over the less expensive M&P. I saw an M&P explode at the range last summer, no thanks on that one.
