Can anyone recomend a good Calgary (or area) Gunsmith? I have a 12ga Breda and it is having problems cycling rounds through it so I thought I would take her in to get looked at. If you know of anyone good if you could post or PM that would be great. Alternatively if you have any ideas on what might be causing the problem any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Everyone I seem to talk to recommends Safari Gunsmithing. He's only about 5min away from Russell Sports. I have him choke an older remington shot gun I had, did a pretty good job.

However, I've lost some faith in him since I got him to tap a mount for my M14, and he drilled the mounting holes crooked (noticeably).

David Henry is an excellent gunsmith located in Bentley. It's a far drive, but worth it. You can google "David Henry gunsmith" and see his website.

I don't think David Henry keeps his website alive anymore but his business is thriving and you can also mail guns to him.

There is an old guy that shoots trap at the Dewinton Club. He always wears a crooked cowboy hat, can't remember his name, I think it is Dave. Ask around, take it with you when you go.

Dont give this clown any work. He did some cruddy work on one of my guns and I wont ever go back. His attitude and customer service need a big adjustment. Definately go somewhere else.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the help and advice on smith's. I may have to head out to DeWinton to find the crooked cowboy hat man just to use it as an excuse to get out there and shoot, not that an excuse is ever needed. Thanks again.

you'd be well advised to go elsewhere for repairs-do a search on the company and see waht you get

Good to know, I drive by Bentley a lot as Bentley is on my way to my parents.

Is Safari that old guy south of Chinook mall, operates out of his garage? If it's him, I got him to check over my grandpa's old LE (some said it was defective) and he said it just needed some cleaning. Seemed alright, but it's not like I got him to do anything complex.

ya..thats the guy.

Stay away...far far away.

When I was there he had a bunch of customer rifles piled on-top of each other in the corner.

Free scratches and rifle damage with each repair.

I'm done with that clown!

There is a fellow up here by the name of Dave Thompson who has been doing firearm work for years. He might be worth a call.

He works at Wolverine Ford in High Level.

I already posted this in another thread, but since this on seems to be getting some action...

What about The Rifleman's Shoppe In Calgary.

I talked to him this morning, and he seemed to know his stuff. I didn't get his name, but he had a German accent, and sounded older (50's?).

Anyone have any experience?

ask the guys out at sheppard range about him- it's not very complientary- about the only guys i've heard good things about is rick over at atr and the guy down at the shooting edge- but you sure hear about the bad ones

Rick's a good smith and a pretty affable guy to boot.

Marcus at TSE (If I have been told correctly) is a Master Gunsmith who got his chops in Switzerland.
