I have been hunting geese with my Beretta A400 Xplore for a year now. I have always used the Mod choke that came with the shotgun. I now want a choke with a tighter constriction as the pattern with my Mod choke opens up too quick. There are not a lot of chokes tighter than .710 (mod) that can handle steel in this gun due to the very thin barrel. The Carlson Full or Extended range Supper Steel choke has a .703 constriction. Has anyone tried one that can give me their opinion? I shoot mostly 3 and 3.5 inch with BB and some 2's. And mostly low end ammo like Score and Winchester Xpert.

Looking for the tightest pattern. Keep in mind this is a Optima Bore HP barrel so I don't need recommendations for chokes that don't exist for my barrel.

Thanks

Have a look at the Kicks high flyer chokes. They throw excellent patterns and the ports help substantially in reducing recoil when shooting 3.5" shells. I have one in modified and one in full. I use the full choke with shot sizes up to BB and the modified choke for shot sizes from #4 to T. If you plan on shooting BBB and T, I would say stick with the modified choke.

Be aware that some manufacturers rate their chokes for steel and others for lead, some chokes have both ratings listed. I use Briley extended LM(lead) chokes for goose hunting, and they pattern tighter than some chokes rated Mod by some other manufacturers.

I just ordered the Carlson Super steel in the extended range (.703) Which would typically fall between improved modified and light full. It can handle shot size up to BB and speeds up to 1550. All my ammo falls into this category so I think its a good choice. We'll see if it was a good choice once I've pattered it.

I have a Pattern Master Code Black Goose choke that I have used in my Beretta A 400 Extreme, this choke is a little bit tighter I think then the Code Black Duck...and is more designed for use with the 3/12 in shells. I have made some clean kill past 50 yards on geese with it, but to be honest I went back to using the factory Modified choke that came with the gun. My wingshooting had gotten a lil rusty after not shooting birds for about the last 20 years and just got back into last year. Bottom line I was having trouble connecting with the much tighter pattern that choke throws. As for the choke itself I found it to be well made and that fact that it is ported didn't seem to make it any louder to me.
Please be warned " Do Not Shoot Federal Black Cloud, Winchester Blind Side or other flight control wad Ammunition in some Patternmaster choke tubes"!
