Good cleaning kit for 10/22

I drink the Otis Kool Aid, bought into the idea of pulling fouling outward, in the direction the bullet travels instead of pushing it inward towards the action.

I have a new one. I have just been using a bore snake to clean the barrel. I have taken it apart to clean it once after about 3000 rounds it is very easy to do. Check out a company called possum hollow they make a cleaning rod guide that protects the muzzle if you want to clean from the muzzle end. They also have a plug that goes into the mag well to catch the dirty patches. There is a demonstation on you tube. I ordered from them but since I got the bore snake I havn`t used it yet.

Hoppe's Bore Snake?

A Dewey 20 cal. cleaning rod with an 8-32 adaptor, and the appropriate Dewey 10/22 muzzle guide/protector.

+1 on Dewey rods, they are excellent and the only thing I will clean bore with now. Boresnakes belong in the garbage, not scraping through a barrel.

Keep in mind that .22 barrels are more vulnerable to cleaning induced wear and damage and take care to not rub cleaning rods against the bore or drag abrasive crap through on the rod.

just curious what is wrong with using a boresnake everyone seems to have a different opinion

For the people that use the OTIS kit, where do you guys buy your OTIS small caliber patches from? Only seem to run into the regular caliber ones. Also, do you guys ever feel the need to use bronze brushes? I was told by many to avoid them and use patches 100% of the time.

Once it has been used a bit the cloth is embedded with abrasive particles that wear on the barrel as it is pulled through. Ask the target guys what they think of boresnakes and if they use them in their rifles.

I'm just using the all-calibre patches after using up all my rimfire patches, works for me. I also use the bronze brush because I shoot lead round nose bullets and patches alone won't remove the fouling. I haven't noticed any adverse affects to the bore of my 10/22, that said, even if I take a slight hit on accuracy down the road, it's a 10/22, I don't think of or use this gun like a precision rimfire rifle.

I have no idea what happened to my small cleaning rod I had. So I took an old shoelace put a small fishing weight on the end and dipped er in some solvent. I tied a couple knots at the end and ran it through a couple times and walllaa! clean as a whistle...Its ok to be a redneck once in a while

Available in Canada?

Ellwood Epps sells Dewey cleaning tools, and a number of other gun shops do as well.
You can also order directly from Dewy's web site as cleaning rods, muzzle guides, and adaptors are classed as ( TOOLS ) and under our so called free trade deal with the US are even duty free.
A nice change from all the BS involved when trying to get a ( GUN PART ) from the land of the free.

Once accuracy or function drops, strip the riffle and clean barrel with a one piece coated/carbon fiber rod. Use a good lead remover with patchs and a brush. blow the trigger group and reciever out with compressed air, brake cleaner, then G96. Wipe/blow off excessive oil and reassemble. takes about 30min total.
