argh.
I had a report written up an the page closed on me! darnit!
so basically in short.
I stalkd up toward the wallow where I had the camera in hope of seeing the monster stag.
as i neared the wallow I heard noises below it, instead of being patient I snuck in an spied a roo, then something winded me an ran up the other side briefly, I kept creepin incase I could see antler but I was busted by a hind an then 4 sambar deer took off over the ridge into the bush further!
I didn't see any antler but got on the tracks and found a stag print, not very big or deep but worth a look..
I followed the prints for about an hour before turning an heading back up another gulley when I heard alert birds... it was hard to see with high stand of blackberry!
so wondering what was in there I stayed up high an glassed but seen nothing, a few steps later an HONK I could hear deer moving, from 50m behind a stand of blackberry a Spiker popped out and I had no hesistation in releasing the Whelen.
a 250gr Hornady hit home an the other deer took off, 3 more hinds!
was a good outcome an some nifty stalking
great spring day out... maybe next time it will be hes dad!!
pics
Whelen in its Ramline Ruger outfit
2 young Spikers
Got some Roasts for Satdy night fishin trip! you beauty
Edit- deer ran 30m an died and 250gr passed clean thru, massive bloodtrail from initial hit .
