Well I've finally finished getting all my necessary items together for my 8mm-06 AI, reloading dies, bullets, surplus 30-06 brass, rifle and optics.

Only thing I need to double check is the powder used for fireforming this round. I was reading up on it and some suggested IMR4895 at a starting load.

What have any of you guy's used to fireform your 8mm-06 AI?

Save your bullets, try 15 grains of Bullseye, 1/4 sheet of toilet paper pushed down on top of the powder, top off with cornmeal and a bit of wax or bullet lube to seal the mouth. !5 grains should do it, .......if not try one or two more grains, but no more. I've used this for hundreds of fireformed loads and saved a fortune in bullets wasted!

X2, Eagleye. I just use another wad of TP to seal the cornmeal or Cream of Wheat in the case instead of wax. Seems to work just as well.

Is fireforming a good thing for .308? Would it make cases that were not fired in my rifle better?

Usually only done to blow out cases to accept larger bullets, or to fit Ackley Improved chambers. If you had a bunch of 243 brass, you could make 308 that way. It would work, with 308 brass to size it to your rifle, then neck size, but not really practical, just stuff a bullet and shoot.

I'm not worried about using up the bullets as I only have about 60 cartridges for the conversion. I was also given some lead bullets which I will not really be using for much other than target practice.

I wonder why you wrote on these threads, asking for advice?
You got perfect, time tested, simple and cheap advice from two experts, but it looks like you are ignoring it and sticking to your original idea.

I have used green dot pistol powder, I put 25 grains and cream of wheat to fire form my 338 edge ai brass. I wouldn't do it in your house mine was very loud. wax, toilet paper, or polyester material to seal it all in

Messy

I guess the next question I should have asked was if shooting cornmeal and TP is extremely messy to clean up and can you shoot 60 round at one time?

I would also have to purchase oatmeal, cornmeal etc as I have none in the house.

I don't mind going though the extra work but just figured since I'm only doing 60 rounds instead of 300-400 hitting paper with a bullet would be just that much more fun.

Nothing wrong with all the advise, gives me more options and that's always a good thing.:D
