Hey guys!

Looking for some advice on purchasing my first holster. Coming up time to do the holster course and need to kit up.
In terms of use I am looking for something pretty basic, M&P 9, OWB, minimal style holster, going to be running this off a simple riggers or gunfighter belt.
May eventually be running this in IPSC production division with a double mag carrier or something similar.
Currently I am leaning towards something kydex like perhaps a raven concealment or safariland.

Interested to hear the community's recommendations on options.

thanks in advance!

I use a Blade Tech in IDPA competition and in concealed carry abroad. I like them, they fit your firearm perfectly. I've drawn my comp pistol as least 1,000 times with no visible wear on the pistol or holster--and if there was wear I wouldn't be upset.

In concealed which is not a factor here in Canada I like them as Blade Tech has proven very good for me in extremely hot, humid, tropical climates. Their design is very good, sweat tends to drip away. They are easy to clean at the end of the day, and they don't have any gimmicky retention locks. If I need to draw it abroad it's for a very good reason. Retention is very easy with simple Phillips screws to tighten on the pistol which allows very good retention.

When I am abroad in the area that I carry I love my Blade Tech holsters and mag holders. I am confident that I can draw without some stupid thumb, finger, wish you could draw bull####. It's life or death, not competition. I like the clean smooth draw. It might just save my life.

Your first can be the best get a soley canadian one by far the best kydex ive used. After I got the first one for my beretta I sold my raven I will be buying one for every gun I own now The man to talk to is rollie100 .

Thanks for the info guys. Bladetech getting some love!
Will have a look!

@PharoH - please forgive my ignorance, but I am wondering if you can clarify when you say that they are a "safe" holster for a beginner?
Is there a specific feature or something I should be looking for? I ask, because obviously I want to get something safe, and if there is something I should be aware of I definitely want to avoid it!

@dave37 - Thanks for the info, the bladetechs do look nice and really affordable! Wondering about the "sweat guard". This seems to be a common feature among a lot of holsters, and I notice that the bladetechs don't seem to utilize them. Is this because it sits out a little bit from the belt? Again, please forgive my ignorance, as I am a total newb to the holster game!

@SelectShootingSupplies - Thanks for the info. Final question I promise! I am running the M&P VTAC which has sights that are bigger (taller) than normal. Would this pose any issue with the bladetech?

thanks again for all the info guys! really appreciate it!

I havent actually held the VTAC version so I am not 100% sure, it is only the front site that goes into the holster so the size of the rear sight doesn't matter but if the front site is larger it may be an issue.

In the Classic line Blade-Tech does list a holster for the M&P 9 VTAC but that doesn't mean it is different, they list many firearm models on their web site that share a common holster. That said I have an order in right now that is due to ship within two weeks, if you want a VTAC specific model I could try to have it added to my current order for you.

When the pistol is holstered in a bladetech type holster, it covers the pistol from the muzzle all the way up past the ejection port so its held in really secure. Theres tension screws to adjust how hard the kydex clamps down on the pistol so u can walk around without the fear of having it drop to the ground.

Hope this helps

Imo a good kydex holster shouldnt need tension screws a hand made holster leaps and bounds better then a production one.

I second the solely canadian recommendation. Awesome holsters, awesome service and a canadian product. I got one for my m&p and intend to buy one for any holsterless firearm i have.

Just wanted to chime in here again. Thanks for all the input on options for a holster.
All of the options looked really great, but I was super impressed looking at the custom stuff from Solely Canadian.
Their stuff looks really high quality and the prices are really reasonable.

I contacted Solely Canadian about getting a couple of holsters done, and Tim was incredibly helpful and super responsive. Honestly some of the best customer service I have had. That plus the fact that I am supporting a BC company made for an easy decision!

I will report back in a couple of weeks with an update on my new holsters!!
Thanks again!
