Hey all. I am looking at using a blanket powder for the majority of my rifle loads. I will still have some specific ones for accuracy and hunting, but I would like to know if people have ideas for a powder or two that would cover the following calibres (I basically want to buy bulk and have effectively plinking ammo).

.223 Rem
30-30 Win
.308 Win
30-06 Sprg
.300 Win Mag
.303 Brit
7.62x54R

I'm pretty sure I can get a single powder to cover all my .308-.311 loads, unsure about encompassing the .224 however... Thanks all!

You can imagine that everybody had their own opinion. (I don't "get" using IMR4350 at all  ) Oh well, good luck in your quest

Yes, but then it was the general powder for everything, I am a little more limiting.
Let me further my details with bullet masses
.224 Diam.: 40-65gr
.308 Diam.: 110-220gr
.311 Diam.: 150-180gr

What about stuff like H4895? Hodgdons' site show it used in almost everything rifle calibres.

I currently use the following
.223 Rem: IMR 4198
30-30 Win:IMR 4198
.308 Win: IMR 3031
30-06 Sprg: IMR 4350
.300 Win Mag: IMR 4350
.303 Brit: IMR 4064
7.62x54R: IMR 4320

Yes I currently use alot of different IMR powders. But only because I inherited my uncles reloading supplies and load charts. So I have decent loads for my guns using IMR Powder, but quite a few powders.

if you didnt include 300 Win Mag, it would be Varget, RL15, IMR 4064, or H4895

you'd be best off with 4350 or 4831 for the 300 Mag in addition to one of the other powders I listed

Yeah. I loath to try alternate powders with the 300 Win Mag due to the costs of re-building up accurate loads. I may go the H4895 route and stick with 4350 solely for that one.

That is like asking which beer is going to get me drunker quicker? Everybody has an opinion and their all right. Every rifle is a beast of its own and likes different powders. One type might push all their bullets to the target , just some better than others. Just like life you can't have it all served up to you experiment a bit with different powders and bullets and maybe you will find something that works in most but not all. Then try again with other powders for the rest. Good luck.
