If it is chambered for the 7 x 57 now, the diameter of the neck is larger than the diameter of the neck of a 7 x 64 or .280 Remington, so the fired brass would have a fireformed stepped neck and look funny. It would not hurt anything but it looks weird. At least this has been very common in the past... all the older 7 x 57's had very large chamber neck diameters. It seems to be a European Standard.
The barrel could be set back the length of the neck to clean this up, or the neck diameter could be enlarged to match the old chamber neck.
