What is a decent scope for a 243 win? I only really shoot up to 300 yards. I have been using a bushnell buckhorn, but it doesn't seem very bright in low light compared to my buddies ziess, and it likes to get all foggy when its cold...to the point i would rather not use it at all and run open sights. Don't really want to spend much more then $500. Any ideas? I was looking at the leupold rifleman, anything better? I don't know much about scopes at all...

Just picked up a Bushnell 3500 3x9 (got for a smoking deal PLUS the 30% off!) that I am going to put on my .243

Leupold is a decent option. You could just manage the VX-II (aka VX-Freedom) in your budget. Nikon is also worth considering. (The Nikon Monarch 3 is on sale at Cabela's.) Lastly, the Bushnell Elite 3500 series is decent (should be much better than the buckhorn) and has a 30% mail in rebate till the end of the month. (Need to send the form in right away.)

Most things will get foggy on the *outside* when cold, the Bushnell has a Rainguard coating that's supposed to help with that. Other manufacturers have similar coatings, but usually not till you get to scopes that are quite a bit more expensive.

I have a Burris E1 3-9 on mine. It’s been great. Better eye relief that the elites, not that you need it, and the ballistic Plex reticle is for lack of a better word “deadly”. Glass is good, and it’s got zeroable turrets.

The reticle really makes it for me, I was holding over at at 500 on a 12” plate no problem. It’s just got s cool feel too !

On EE refularly too

Easy hold over if you manage to find yourself with a long shot

Bushnell Elite 3200 or 3500 are great scopes for the price a step or two above the riflemen or V1 imo

Not as popular as what's been mentioned but my Redfield Revolution has been stellar. Great eye relief, clear glass for the money. Highly recommended

Just picked up Bushnell 4500 4 X 16 X 40 DOA, has bright ,clear glass. DOA is nice feature for ranging out to 600 yds.

Bushnell elite with rain guard...can't go wrong!

I've had great experiences with the Bushnell Elite Series. Generally 3x9x40 for my hunting requirements.

I recently upgraded my .243 with a 4x16x42 Nikon Monarch (Series 3 I think). So far it's been very impressive.

All my optics are generally fully-multi coated, but I still use see-thru/flip up lens covers. They work great, keep #### out... and look pretty badass. LOL
