Hello

bullet - hornady interlock 165gr sp
powder - winchester 760
primers - CCI

what a good combo for these components

Thanks for the help

I know I can look in a book, but there is people that know this stuff better than a book.

Thanks for the help

I have had good luck accuracy wise with 62.5 gr of H380, arround moa for 3 shots.

The first 5 round that went through the gun shot 1.25 moa wih 60.0 gr, of H380.

But H-4350 and H 4831 SC works well to , I just spent a bit more time fooling with H380, because I had 3 pounds of it and no other cartridge that liked it at that time,,,there is no doubt the other 2 mentioned had equal potential on targets, and velocity and maybe even better and more stable in hot or cold weather.

No two firearms are the same so there is no such thing as a "good" load that will do well in all rifles.

A few hints to start you off:

Use a CCI 250 - or other large rifle magnum primers - especially with heavy loads of ball powder like W760.

Start at 61 grains of W760 and work up in half-grain increments to a maximum of 65 grains watching for signs of excess pressure along the way.

(READ A GOOD RELOADING MANUAL -AND UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY WHAT YOU ARE READING - BEFORE LOADING YOUR FIRST CARTRIDGE!)

Works for me

From my range reports:
Speer 165 Flat base (#2035).
WLRM primer
Win. case.
64gr W760 powder.
Avg. 3080fps
3 shot group 0.78"

I've found W760 and H414 to be very good with a number of 300wsm loads. Check in your load manuals, or the Hodgdon web site to verify my load, and work from the minimum on up. I have NEVER gone over the max book load as far as I recall, but be safe and double check.
I don't make notes of how many groups I have shot with any of my loads, so the 0.78" group was just the average of a # of groups on one day that I recorded the load. I also don't fudge my #'s to impress anyone since I NEED to know each load as I do hunt with them. If the future shows that any load will not consistanly keep near 1" , 1-1/4" I will note that in my records and not go back to it.

with 168 SMK's I used 57 gr. H4895- Fed Match mag primers..... max load is 57.5 gr ...if you try this load start low and work your way up... I have also used 68 gr's of R19 x 175 gr SMK's with very good results... max is 70.5 grs

I have a Weatherby Vanguard [Howa] in 300 WSM It really liked 65 grains of W760 behind the 165 grain Interlock. It also shot very well indeed with the same load and the 165 Speer Grand Slam. [work up from 3 grains below, carefully] I did not try the 165 Partition, because I have a 180 Partition load that shoot so very well, I will just leave it alone, thanks. Regards, Eagleye

Just did this for a buddy's Browning SS with the 165 SST. Tossup between 68.5 grs W760 and 69.5 grs RL-19 both with CCI 200 (standard LR) primers. Both seemed to be in the 3150 fps (at +6 deg C) range and spooky accurate. Light trigger helped keep both of these 2 loads considerably better than MOA but if it were me I`d have chosen the RL-19 between the 2 just because I like it and I managed an honest .65 inch 3-group - not my rifle but I cleaned it. Both were seated to 2.835 (COL) inches as a starting point as per book, but it worked so well we saw no reason to mess with it.

I use W760 with 165 sst's and get better groups compared to using H-4895 or Varget as a powder. I believe this has something to with the burn rates between the two powders and filling up case capacity. Large rifle primers seem to work fine for the cartridge. I load 64.5g. But as always: check the books, start low and safely work the load up.
