Nice crisp morning for the deer opener. I am watching a black bear pig out on my deer bait. I will go get a bear tag during lunch. No deer activity yet. Will post pics later.

Nice gun too. While I am not a Black Rifle guy by any means, I spent yesterday afternoon prepping one of this year's deer rifles, a DA Socom18 very reminiscent of yours (or is yours a Springfield?). It's shooting MOA groups at 200 yards with hunting ammo, much to my surprise since I have done very little to it. Not the typical type of rifle I use for hunting, but I'm looking forward to blooding it. What ammo are you using in your rifle?
 
A few more pics. No bears or deer were shot. It was all quiet this afternoon. We just had dinner, and are relaxing. A day in woods beats a day at work. :)

Beautiful colors I hear you when you say A day in woods beats a day at work. Had a small operation on my thumb few months back and still hurts like hell couldn`t make it out this year. Good luck.
 
You do know that since you went and bought that tag, you won't see a bear all week right? ;)

Gorgeous pictures, really whetting my appetite for next week! Keep them coming and enjoy your time out there (like I need to say that).
 
Just having a sandwich and a tea. It's a fairly cool today. I walked to my spot and was waiting for legal shooting time when a bear snuck up on me. We both jumped and it took off. I have re-positioned and am hoping it will go back to the bait. I put out 4 bags of smashed apples and soaked them in molasses. My buddy is out running and gunning for a buck. Not a lot of deer activity today.
 
Bear is lurking near the bait. No clear shots. Just seeing flashes of him. He knows something is up. I am banking on the molasses to finally get him to commit.
 
Hopefully you get the bear and deer, I'm not getting out hunting this fall, so I'm patiently awaiting results from all of you here, good luck on your hunt!
 
Cool stuff! I shot a bear in WMU 46 (south of French River) back in October. May I ask what part of 46 you're in? Very few deer up where I hunt, but I like going for the bear and grouse.

We are not far from Britt. Last year we saw 6 does on our first day, and shot one. We shot at a buck yesterday but missed. No deer sightings today.
 
I just finished lunch and a tea. Temp is dropping and it's overcast. No activity on the baits. No gunshots heard all day either.

Just heard the first shot of the day. Maybe 700-1000m away. My area is quiet. Temp is falling like a stone and it looks like rain.
