I shot a big billy three years ago, they are big animals. I shot mine from 100 meter above and tried to spine it, missed bone by a couple of millimeters and took out a lung and a couple ribs. Second shot was thru both shoulders.
They are though and this fellow died in front of me and still managed to kick at his last breath. Luck was with me and he stopped tumbling after 300 meters or so, large tree trunk stopped him.
I was shooting a Remington Model 7 in 7mm SAUM with 140 grain Barnes TSX's. Bullet performance was excellent, had I managed to place my first shot perfectly it would have just dropped on the spot, unfortunately shooting standing, bent 90 degrees at the waist with my boot on the edge of the mountain did not make for the most stable shooting platform, lol.
I've now moved up in caliber and shoot a Remington Alaskan Ti in .300WSM, flat shooting and I can use heavier bullets which I like especially in bear country!
