Good news on the 870 Express...

Bought an 870 Express that was just manufactured, and nice surprise, they've upped quality. I've had a few, and the gamut of 870 models from Expresses to Wingmasters to Police models, and this new Express is internally as polished and smooth to pump as my Wingmaster was. The bolt group now shines, versus the slightly rough unit in my old Express, and the thing has zero grit and slides smooth. Receiver's internally very, very nicely machined as well.

So impressed I had to write a note about a $300 firearm. Not what I've come to expect from Remington after following their products from the late 90's to today. Things are looking up quality wise, despite a poor economy and sales.
 
I got one this summer, and I am very happy with it, after a couple boxes of shells it was completely broken in, and hasn't had a single feeding problem since the first box.
 
I got one last week or so ago. One box and it was a bit better, hopefully after a couple cheap boxes of bird shot it will be better.

I think you got lucky.
 
I have an express super mag combo from about 4 years ago, a MM from 2 years go and none of them have ever given me cause for concern except for the finnish of the express. This spray on spackle they used was not very rust proofing/moisture resistant, but the gun always always functioned flawlessly. I have nothing but good things to say about Remingtons.
 
hmm... thats odd, i was at the store today looking at shotguns and saw a nice 870 on the rack, so i asked to look at it, once i got it in my hands and had a closer look.. the finish on the reciever looked like it was splattered on with a paint brush.. :eek:

it was a brand new unit, with a 14" norinco barrel swapped on, and im actually suprised to say this but, the finish on the norinco barrel was 10 times better than the finish on the rem action :eek::eek:
 
My 12g/laminated/non-"J" lock Express is about a year old, totally reliable feed and function- which is night and day compared to the "Supermagnum" piece of SH*T I bought new five years ago.

I would agree, the new Express models are great. Just bought my sister one in 20g, same deal- shiney internals and smooth.

Same experience here, had an early express, and thereafter avoided it like the plague. Needed a new truck gun, opened the box... and well I'll be damned. Looked inside it... even more surprised.
 
I totally love my Super Mag. I got it a little over two years ago and never once has it given me an issue. It is very slick as well. It is a "never sell" firearm of mine. I love it! it's the main shotgun I use for getting Grouse in the fall. But I just bought a Browning that might take her place for some of the season :D
 
the only time i have has a feeding problem with my new 870 was when i pumped it too slow and was tilted to the side. if you keep it level and give it good fast pumps it will work every time.

Love to see a pic of the improved express. I did not see anything about changes and/or improvements in the 2009 catalog. Maybe Remington is finally realizing the need to offer quality and not just cheap guns.
 
870 Expresses have gone up in price but so has evreything else on the market right now. A year and a half ago a 3", 870 express with 28" barrel was $329.99 now we are looking around $420 Canadian. Wingmasters were around $699 and now they are selling around $830. Sucks these times were living in!!!
