Hello all, I currently have a Springfield Socom16 on order and I am planning to put on a red dot on the forward rail that comes on it. My concern is the rail absorbs a lot of heat from the barrel and I would like to know if there is any good suggestions for a good red dot to use that could handle this? I don’t plan on firing off hundreds of rounds but it will have to withstand some heat for sure I am just not too sure if red dots can easily fry or if the battery can get hot and exploded or something stupid. And yes I am set on a red dot I don’t really want to do a scout scope or anything nor do I want to get a side scope mount.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The heat is not the issue on an m14 pattern rifle.
Its the movement of the action.

It creates a very violent recoil and is known to eat cheap optics.

trijicon will take it no issues, aimpoint too.

If your looking to save money, stick with vortex for ease of lifetime warranty that is located in Canada.

Yes, that's mostly the reason that I love them so much.

Aimpoint PRO is a very solid optic, Heck I used to have 3 of them and never had an issue with any of them.

They come on EE for 450 to 500 so wait patiently

Another honourable mention would be a eotech XPS3 on a casm mount and there about 5-7 hundred I love mine there a solid optic
