Ok got the new pad but the screws wont fit it adds an inch to the length, got it from marstar. The bottom long one holds on to the swivel slightly but it can flop around a bit, the top one is useless and won't thread on to anything. What kind of screws are these , and whats the thread size and specs ? can i order new ones or find similar ones but longer ?

Last time I was a Fabsports (about a month ago) he had at least 6 hanging on the wall.

The screw that goes into the bottom swivel is a weird size of thread pitch.....I had the bottom swivel re-tapped to a comman sized thread pitch and replaced it with a bolt that I took a grinder to at the head to make it round and a smaller diameter.I then took a hacksaw and cut a screwdriver slot in it and painted the head .

Easy fix ...The top screw is just a wood screw and I used the original one on mine

Those pads are hard plastic and little different in terms of recoil absorptions (not that you need it) over the original metal plate. They also lengthen the stock, which I'm not sure is beneficial. That said, I am using one on my USGI stock because I like the look and the fact I can put the butt in the snow and not worry about rust.

On the top screw I knocked a small block of wood into the slot that the captive nut sits in the USGI stock and just used the wood screw.

The bottom screw is annoying. I couldn't think of any solution other than what chalkriver suggested. I wasn't that keen on altering my sling swivel.

Then I realised that the extra inch it added to the length of pull made it too long for the eye relief of my scope (leupold) so I binned the whole idea and went back to the factory butt plate.

Taking the hinge portion of the factory but plate removed a good 100g off the weight of the rifle.

Another CGN here suggested cutting the inside of the pad where the bottom screw goes in to make the pad thinner on the inside........I tried the drilling the hole out method but with my sausage fingers I was making a mess out of it....DUH...The way I did it if I want to swich back to the metal pad I still can by just getting a shorter bolt as it is a easy thread pitch to find as opposed to the fine thread on the original screw.
