Good shootable bore, slightly dark

Keep looking.....plenty around with pristine bores.
Good shootable bore, slightly dark.....usually means the grooves are pitted, but the lands are OK, shot alot and not cleaned/maintained. It will foul quickly, accuracy will probably be OK until it fouls bad.

You must be talking about Tradex. I've bought three rifles from them and they're conservative in their assessment of their guns. You can be pretty sure you're getting BETTER than they describe. You can keep looking if you want, of course, but you don't really have to if you've found one that you really like because of a great stock or a great price or something. Two of the rifles I bought off them were described as "very good bore" and personally I think they were more like "near mint". If they're saying it's a "good, shootable bore" it's probably better than most used rifles you'll find around. Just my two cents.

Northman, you nailed it, and I am thinking that it's worth picking up for the stock alone to be honest. Email already sent (does their online contact form work? I mean, not expecting an answer right now, but didn't recieve confirmation that they received an email.)

I always call them. They're a father and son outfit and they're really good.

being that I started the thread this probably really isn't high jacking, so to anyone that reads this and has impressions on the M96, let me know what you think of the rifle. Well aware of the round and it's inherant accuracy and flexibility...my heart is set on the 6.5X55...just can't afford a Sako or justify a Tikka at the moment.

6.5 x 55 is an amazing round. It is very similar to 7x57 in performance and this round is legendary. You can't go too wrong with the 6.5.

BTW: TradeEx are excellent to deal with. They will answer your posting on their website (by return e-mail). I just bought another Mauser Sporter (soon to be rebarreled in 7x57)

rifle recieved, the bore looks fine and I suspect it will clean up nice as well. Will have it out tomorrow to see how it shoots, but the home crown job will be the first thing I accuse if accuracy is below par. Thinking about the electo cleaning process for the barrel. If the rest of the rifle is any indication of just how often this rifle was cleaned, it's long over due! But, the rifling is crisp as far as I can tell.
