I use mineral spirits to cut the 100% tung oil I apply to stocks (it acts as a drier.) I also use mineral spirits to clean the stain brushes after application. Denatured alcohol should work too, as well as turpentine. None of them should harm the blueing. just apply a good gun oil after the metal is dry.
