Hi,

Does anyone have a good source for all the SMLE & No.1 updates/upgrades?

I am particularly interested in the SMLE No.1 Mk1's, and No.1 Mk.1* rifles and the little upgrades between them and would like to do further research.

I am talking about the really early ones ;)

If anyone could recommend any sources (in print or online) for all the little upgrades, please advise.

Thanks!

(Not my rifle sadly haha)

"The Lee Enfield Story" by Skennerton is the best reference source for all variations of the Lee Enfield rifle, mods, trials etc. Long out of print so hard to find and available copies are damn expensive. Good luck!

Skennerton's newest book called "The Lee Enfield" is still available. Just ordered one from Abe books in the US. Cost was $93.50 US shipped to Ontario.

Can't wait to read it!

I've got a lot of use out of a small (inexpensive) book called "The Lee Enfield Number 1 Rifles" by Petrillo. It briefly lists many of the modifications distinguishing the various Marks, including the conversions. The big Skennerton book is a tremendous read but doesn't always answer every question about a given individual rifle. For that it's a good idea to join "milsurps" forum and go through as many old threads as you can. Generally, posting photos of a given rifle will get some useful feedback.

Ditto. My go-to reference is by Charles Stratton from "For Collectors' Only" Vol 2 'Lee Enfield No.4 and No.5 Reifles' by North Cape Publications.
