Can anyone recommend a good place to look for a used Diamondback, K-22 or 617? I'm shopping for a DA revolver but if I can't find any of these, I guess I'll have to pony up for a new 617. I'm also considering a Ruger New Model Single Six but I would prefer the ability to practice DA shooting (and the ability to empty the cylinder in one motion).

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by 12(6). I am located in Vancouver though if it helps. I have read online that some people import guns from different provinces and I'm wondering if that is something I may have to undertake in order find a good used handgun.

12(6) is a special classification on your permit that allows you to buy pistol with a barrel length of less then 105mm (4").
Buying firearms from another province is common practice in Canada, as Murphy's law would have it, you can seldom find what you want locally

No, I have no permits yet but I'm starting the long journey. I have the restricted and non-restricted safety courses scheduled for the next two weekends. From there, I'll plot out my next move. I'm in no rush as I figure this will be a long-term interest. I'm not looking for concealed carry (no need for a snubbie), I just have always wanted to learn how to shoot firearms (the proper, responsible way). As for the firearm, I want it to be a keeper hence the brands and particular models I have listed. Thanks.
I'd concentrate on getting your PAL first...then get some education on firearms laws and regulations..there is no concealed carry in canada,and you can not be grandfathered for 12(6) if you dont allready have it..

Since you appear to be new to firearms, there are several things that you might as well know, because for you there are a few things that are virtually impossible to attain.
As a private citizen, it seems that you can only get a Canadian concealed carry permit if you are: the Prime Minister, a high ranking politician or a judge of the supreme court.
As far as a "snubbie", if you did not own one prior to 1995, you never will. That is what the 12(6) prohibited classification is all about. It is a "grandfathered" class that allows you to continue to own pistols with barrels less than 105mm (4 1/4") long as long as you had one in that class prior to 1995. (some people might qualify if prior to 1998)
Guns with barrels less than 105mm can no longer be imported, or made in Canada. The government chose 105mm so that all 4" or shorter, barreled guns would become prohibs.
jerichoholic_ninja, do you have access to the Equipment Exchange? I have seen 617's come through there occassionally. Being the owner of a Model 17-6 (blued, not stainless), they are real nice shooters, a good choice.

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to follow up on those leads. By the way, I finished the Non-Restricted course last weekend. 96% on the written exam, 100% on the practical. Got the mini-fridge magnet but I would really have liked to have received the large one. I'll be doing my restricted course this weekend.
