No experience w clay save throwing some up in a field. Fair amount of shotgun experience for hunting birds, turkey, deer but hoping some of you can provide guidance. Want an O/U. Want a good starter gun w/o breaking the bank (1500 max). See if the interest holds. Used or new is fine.

Thx fellow Nutters!

If you intend to shoot a lot, find a good used Browning or Beretta, but that will cost you more than $1500. You can buy a cheaper Turkish gun, but it likely won't stand up under any higher volume shooting. If your absolute top budget is $1500, you are better off with a semi auto like an SX-4, or A300.

Browning or Beretta is your best bet for an o/u. A used one will likely cost more than $1500 but they will hold their value and you will get your money back out of it in a few years if you lose interest in shooting clays.
There's a bunch of semi auto's to chose from for less than your price range but I'd stay away from most of the Turkish made guns, they tend to go down in value quickly. Stick with Beretta, Browning or Winchester and it will be hard to go wrong, you can get a fairly new gun in your price range.

^^^ What Stubble and Falcon says is "bang on"...lol

You'll be hard pressed to get into any model of Browning or a Beretta used for clays for 1500 bucks. If you think that this is something you're going to want to continue with in the future, then this is your best bet IMHO as well. Buy once, cry once !

However...that being said...
****There are a few entry level O/U's that could be a starting point if money is too tight, or you're not 100% you want to continue the clays game. Might be a good place for you to start if the circumstances dictate it.

This one that comes to my mind ....I handled and shot a young fella's new Stoeger Competition 12 ga O/U before Christmas. {{ I know guys...I know, ...it ain't a "B gun...LOL}} but it's all he could afford now. REALLY Surprised me....not that old 2x6 feeling grip any more at all..lol Felt good in my hand (not my 525 or 625 good...but good..lol)

It has 30 inch ported barrels, an adjustable comb, auto ejectors and comes with a few extended chokes.
He paid just over a thousand bucks for it B4 taxes...IF, he needs a new firing pin or something else down the road...Stoeger is in Ontario ! He's really happy with it, it's his first O/U and he's just starting into the clays games !! Doing OK starting out, but he's full of pizz & vinegar so he'll improve !!

Huddles....keep an eye on this site ! www.thegundealer.net
he's in NB, but will ship anywhere. BIG inventory of firearms...biggest in Canada I'd say !!
The inventory changes every few days, and he always has some pretty good prices on some shotguns. He does layaways, takes trades and right now, he has a few new 686's on for 2500...28 in bbl tho.

Best of luck with it...The clays games are the most fun you can have with your clothes still on !!!

keep us in the loop as to what you decide....cheers Kevin

If you want to keep the cost as low as possible, while still testing the O/U platform. Grab an old Baikal. Easily can find under 500.00 and they do the job. Engraving work is usually non-existent or hilariously bad, but provides its own unique charm.

Intersurplus has many surplus O/U if you don't want to break the bank. Or a used vintage Beretta for example:
