Goodbye 308 my old friend

For me the 6.5 has a heavier bullet and as such better at longer rangers when wind might be a concern. But the other biggest is ammo/bullet selection. 6.5 Creedmoor is really easy to get right now, not so much for 6mm Creedmoor.

Funny story, I was at Cabela's on the weekend to buy some fishing gear and swung by the gun counter to see what's up. Someone had an armful of 6mm Creedmoor because he was having trouble finding 6.5mm Creedmoor (as in, he intended to shoot 6mm in his 6.5mm) before I stopped him. Not a round of 6.5mm on the shelves, but probably two dozen boxes of 6mm. I asked one of the dorks behind the counter "why so much 6mm? Have you even sold a 6mm Creedmoor?". They had not, and had no idea why they had cases of 6mm Hornady Match out back and stuff they actually sell was out of stock not hours after it arrived.
 
6.5 CM has pretty good barrel life, not so much with the 6mm. Replacing barrel in the Great North gets pretty pricey especially on such a nice rifle. 308 is a great all rounder but realistically is an 800 yard cartridge. Wind deflection at 1000 yard for the 6.5CM dominates the 308 easily.

I disagree on that. I've owned hundreds of guns, still have numerous 308's. Its a useful round, accurate, and easy to shoot. - dan
