I'm wanting to make some goose silhouettes to add to my current spread.

Since I could be the worst artist in the world I need a template to do my tracing with. I'm looking for a template (or 2) that I can trace onto a sheet of plywood that I can then cut-out and paint.

Anyone have a source for template I can use to trace the shapes onto the plywood.

Sentry, feeder, sleeper I dont care the pose.

Check your local Library for books such as The Hunter's Complete Encyclopedia, Complete Waterfowler, Decoys & how to Rig Them, etc.

Many have silhouete patterns drawn on grids that you can transfer to a larger grid drawing.

Alternatively, take a few good slides of geese from magazines, project them life size onto a piece of white bristol board and trace them out.

Use your noggin' ... you'll come up with something !

We made some out of sauna tube cut in 1.5ft lengths, then cut those in half horizontally shaping the front and back of the goose. Then cut out some head/necks in different positions out of plywood with a pointy end to stick in the ground. Notch the plywood and sauna tube to fit so they stay off the ground, then paint.

Hey Adrain those look good.

I had thought about adding a piece to give a 3-d look, but I think I have enouh stuff to carry as it is.

OK, does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get a "feather" look when i paint these suckers?

Actually decent shells are under 90 bucks a dozen here, and they all stack together and fit in one small bag that weighs very little. Good floaters are about 200 bucks a dozen and they are cumbersome but they are light and easy to place. I find sillouettes less effective than full body decoys.

BR is that the price at the store? A friend of mine is looking for some. Thanks.

Dave.

Id rather have eight full body dekes with the bigfoot system than 6 dozen smaller shells

I currently have about 8 dozen dekes

Here on PEI, shells just don't cut it anymore. There is alot of pressure on these Geese, it seems that the High end, flocked head full bodies are the answer. BUT even with all the high end stuff, guys still swear by a good hand painted Silhouette or one of the many photo realistic silhouettes like Big Flock or Real Geese.
Many folks on PEI also use "stuffers" but unless you can do your own taxidermy, they are expensive.

Myself I have 4 dozen Big Flock Sils and 11 Full body decoys ( I also have 15 Henriettas that I may try to revive with motion stakes) I am currently planning to flock their heads for a more realistic look.

Great price on flocking materials is www. donjer.com (take out the space)

Oh yes and for a good pattern for Sils... just get your hands on a few factory made sils and go to town. make as many patterns as you can get your hands on.

There are a few shops in Canada selling Flocking kits but you will pay double to quadruple the price.
