Goose/duck loads

My hunting partners ( 8 of us) and I all use Winchester X, 3", #3s for all applications. Bin using these for years and have never had a problem. We buy them by the case and they work great for us.

Same as always... Win 3" BB'S for geese and 3" #3's for ducks... Except; For early season woodies and teal we use 3" #4's and on late season divers we use 3" #2's.
 
I shoot a 1 1/8 oz. load of Federal Speed Shok 2 3/4" #2's for everything but if we have a field with Snows mixed in I carry some Federal Ultra Shok in 3" 1 1/4 oz #2. The Ultra Shok loads are in a couple words Ultra performing. No problem smoking Snows at 50 yards clean with them.

Why the switch up during the season? I'm new to hunting so I shoot the loads my buddy suggested that he has been using for ever.
 
90 grains of FFG and 1 1/8 oz of Nice Shot or Bismuth in the 12's
110 grains of FFG and 1 1/4oz of Nice Shot or Bismuth in the 10gauge hammer guns

If I use the Pedersoli I shoot Kent Faststeel #2's, 1 1/8 ounce loads.

The 20 gauge gets a variety of stuff but mostly 1 ounce Fassteel #2's as well

I don't normally switch ammo for ducks and geese.

SAME!!!

While I prefer #4's for ducks, there is enough of a mix of ducks & geese that I don't want to be carrying different ammo.

The #2's in a 3.5 inch shell are an excellent compromise that simplifies things AND WORKS!

2.75" 1-1/8 oz of #4 or #4 for ducks, and 2-3/4" or 3" #1 or BB for geese. Challenger is my favourite, but anything around 1,500 fps suits me.
 
I like switching up my loads depending on different variables and conditions. I usually use 3" Winchester Xpert's but also use Federal game shok for sizes not available in Winchester loads. As a general rule, on warmer days, I like shooting #4's for duck and BB's for Goose. When temperatures drop I go up a size, so #2's for duck and BBB for goose. If Im hunting smaller ducks like woodies, teal or buffleheads, I usually shoot 2 3/4" shells and #4's do the trick. If its really windy or cold out and I'm pass shooting I will use BB's for large ducks and T shot on geese.

I tend to be a shell whore, so I like to have variety and use and abuse just about any type of shell I have at my dispossal.

Early season the plumage is lighter and woodies and teal are smaller birds, hence the lighter loads, since the lighter shot size equates to more pellets and the range is often closer we can use a more open choke and still have good pattern density. Late season means thicker plumage and divers can be tough, hence the slightly heavier loads, since the ranges are often longer and due to the larger shot (fewer pellets), we often use tighter chokes as well. However if I could only choose one load for ducks it would be a fast 3" 1 1/8 oz load of #3's... and for geese a heavier 3" 1 1/4 oz load of BB'S. Winchester, Federal, Kent or other is your choice.

ive been runnin Winchester Blindside in 3" BB in my Winchester sxp, for geese cause naturally Winchester ammo works better in a Winchester shotgun right? but it patterned the best for me but I just got a benelli nova and out of black cloud, hevishot, xpert, kent, and blindside it patterned the best with hevi shot, go figure the ferarri likes its premium fuel lol
 
We shoot over decoys in the field, to me any shells around 1400 fps and size 4 on up works. 2 use Blindside 3" 1 1/8 #3 at 1675, 1 uses Black cloud 2 3/4 -3" #3 &4s. 1 Rem #2 and the rest seem to use what they can get. I use mostly 2s and only change from 2 3/4 to 3" for geese.
