When can I goose hunt? Do I need a license? Where can I hunt? Anyone got private land where they hunt geese? As an Inuk / eskimo back home I can hunt as many as I want , when I want & don’t need a license. I’ve moved to Alberta & wish to follow the rules, etc and bag some geese. Thank you in advance for any help,

You should read the Alberta Hunting Regulations (google it or got to Cdn Tire for a copy) and check the areas that you want to hunt specifically which outline dates and bag limits for the season. The Feds manage the stamps/migratory licenses. Hunting Migratory is like everything else you need to find land (either Crown or Private), get your permissions/Licenses and go out/enjoy.

There's a free publication that shows areas in Alberta that are open to public hunting. The publication gives information as to their locations. Many of these spots were donated by farmers. I was in Alberta last summer camping and I saw it alongside the hunting synopsis at Canadian Tire (I think). I'm sure MNR will be able to direct you to it.

I doubt you need a licence but would advise reading the regulations especially any residency requirements.

Thank you for the info & replies. I am not treaty as I’m an eskimo not Indian & I pay taxes & must follow provincial rules outside of my territory of Nunavut! Ok I’ll look into the info at Cdn tire & google is my friend right? Thanks again,

That's correct. Inside the guide there is a map of the province broken down by Wildlife Management Unit (WMU). You look up the region you want to hunt and all of the information is in that area. Some information is pan-province so it can be bags of fun trying to find the info you need but it is all in the guide. You have to make sure you get the latest year as well as it is amended annually. Good luck, I am missing AB already...

Most of the fields are private land, and you require permission to even enter private land in Alberta. Obtain a county map that shows who owns each parcel of land, and which land is crown land for a start. Then come the opening of the season, scout and find out where the geese are feeding, and get permission from the landowner, if it is private land.
