Finally got out yesterday and did some gopher blasting with savagefan we had a great day good shooting.
I can't beleive what a 22br can do to a gopher it was really launching them when you hit them the right way .
Can't wait to get out again next time I think I am going to try my 220 swift and see what that one does should be some spectacular hits with that one.

We were out yesterday too..... gopher shooting is a blast! Even my "meek" little .222 launches them pretty good when you hit them right. My buddy had some pretty good air with his .22-250 yesterday!

Scott I'm sure a 222 can launch them just fine the guy I was shooting with was shooting a 223 with reduced loads and it was doing a fine job the only difference is he had 40grainers and I was using 55grainers I wonder if the heavier bullets make them more airborn or is it the speed I think when I go back out I will try heavy bullets in one gun and light one in the other and try loading them at the same speed just to see what happens.

I tagged to ground hogs yesterday with my 17hmr, while there is no acrobatics involved they are just as dead. I call this rifle the hog surgeon as most times you can't even find an enterance wound, the insides are just demolished with no visible outside damage. Now my 6.5 with 100 grainers is a different story.

Ive been out once so far this year and the 17hmr destroys gophers preaty good. then theres my cousin with his 22 250. well theres not much left of them. We found pieces of gopher up to 19yards from where the gopher originaly was.

Yep, Coyote's 22 BR is hell on gophers, impressed the hell out of our farmer friend. Funniest thing happened with my 223 bluedot squib loads, I promoted one ferocious varmint to the airborne regiment and went over to see the gore, a piece of it had hit and stunned it's buddy that was only showing it's head out of it's hole. I head shot the thing at 5 feet all I could think of was "Great big gobs of greasy grimey gopher guts" Still a bit early yet but another 2-3 weeks and yeeeeeha!

Savagefan I 'm getting my 6ppc tonight the guy is bringing it over after 7 I will go try it sat morning I am also going to work up a hellish looooad in my 220 swift with those 55vmax since it doesn't scare the cattle into a stampede .I will let you know what kind of speed I get I am going to chrono the speed and just keep it under 4000 fps we will see what that sucker can do next time we go out the farmer might want to try that one at a few 100 yds.

I shot one point blank with my Hornet & 35gr V-Max once. Left a smoking hole in the ground, 3" across and about as deep. I got sprayed with guts ;)

Work why do we have to work shooting gophers would be a good job I wonder if that would be a 6 figure income I would probably quit my job no I would quit hahahahah can't wait to go blasting again I may even have my 22 hornet by then the guy is shipping it out tomorrow morning will make a great little plinker.I didn't realize it is a lot cheaper for powder for 22 hornet than medium burning powders for larger cartridges cost more for the bullets than the powder I hear the little criters will be out in full swing in a few weeks should be a blast.

Ive been out gopher blasting for the past 2 weeks. We have cleared well over 1000 out of the farmers field where we shoot. Ive got about 50 vids so far this year of some sweet gopher acrobatics. A few have left the camera screen alltogether. I mostly use my 17hmr, and my "hunting" buddy (uncle) shoots his 22wmr. I bought 2 bricks of ammo on thursday and am already out. My long range/backup gun is my savage 204. Here are a few pics of my first gopher with the 204. using 39gr sierras. Me and my son went out gopher hunting last weekend and did he ever make me look like a begginner. He was using his new 22wmr and myself I was using my 10/22 he was shooting them before I even seen them. We only got about 50 as the feild didn't hold that many anymore, I guess we shot to many out of the field last year
