Going to Claresholm to visit the in-laws end of March (30th) be there 4 days and would like to get some gopher shooting in with the FIL. He has never done any and I would be missing my "opening weekend" here in Cold Lake. MIL thinks it would be a good "bonding" experience for us. I think it would be just plain FUN. So, with that in mind, is there anyone out there willing to part with a few gophers to settle my jitters? Or any places that you can direct me to direct my FIL to go and talk to people?

Many / most farmers and ranchers will allow people to shoot gophers on their land if it's safe to do so. If you're reluctant about asking for permission, there is a lot of crown land in the Porcupine Hills west of Claresholm that has Columbian ground squirrels on it. They're a bit bigger than the Richardson's ground squirrels, or what most people refer to "gophers" as.

Thank you. I'm not reluctant, just absent. I am 9 hrs north of that farmland, not too sure how comfortable the FIL is in asking, although he says he is good with it. Guess I will take a trip out to the Porcupine Hills then.

We've been to a few Hutterite colonies near Lethbridge. They were always good with it as long as we were shooting where their cows weren't. I am sure there are a few colonies near Claresholm that would have lots of land and prob wouldn't mind.
