These rats are driving me crazy!!!
I live in a Calgary suburb and there is a field right by my back porch.
When ever the BBQ was on therse little bastards runs around on my patio looking for food, other than sh*ting all over the place and making a mess I could live with it until now... Left the patio door open and just found one in the living room!! It's war now.
I am thinking of stoping in at Canadian tier and buying a pellet gun to sort them out.
Close range head shots should do the trick I think....

.22 CB shorts? ;)

if you do go with a pellet gun from CT get a crosman 2289 or 2240 in .22 and look up some mods on the internet. Should stop them fine.

I was using a Umarex CO2-powered 1911 look-a-like yesterday on gophers. Not much 'stopping power' but kills them fairly efficiently up to about a dozen paces. Bonus is that they usually crawl into their holes before expireing so you don't have carcasses in the backyard. However, I will say that something with a few more FPS (manual says this one does 400fps, I'm betting closer to 350fps) and in .22 should make it a simple job.

Actually, a .22 pellet pistol would be a great thing to pack with you for when a gopher pops up six feet away but the 12x scope on the .17HMR makes him all blurry.....

I am thinking it needs to be below 500fps to shoot in a suburb (less than 500fps is not considered a firearm)
Don't want to get in trouble with the law!
Cheeky buggers won't even run away when I tried "shooo" and "FCUKOFF" does not help either!

they may be an annoyance, so I'd make sure that how you take care of them is humane, like any animal we hunt. .22HP pellets at a close to 500fps speed seems to fit the bill. :)

Are you sure? Federal rule, under 500, OK.
In our municipality (little city) any pellet gun is prohibited.

Diana power !!!! This tree-gopher was making a game of digging up tomato plants...out in the country (of course...)

Now he's pushing up daisies....due to a very humane boiler room shot...click-flop...

I'm tellin ya, just put out the poison. It will kill all the gophers that ever venture into your yard and requires little effort on your part. might never see the stupid neighbors cat digging in your yard again either.

How to get rid of gophers and moles. Get a hose of some sort, from the exhaust of any gas burning engine, a quad, lawn mower, etc., and put it down a hole. Start the engine and have a can of Kokanee beer. To kill the whole colony may require three cans.
If the colony is extra large ---. Hey, maybe even the girls from the cabin in the mountains will come!!!

I use an old beater pellet rifle for killing "tree gophers" at my cabin. Use the sharp little hunting pellets. They should work on gophers. Slingshot should work, too. Or dynamite. :p:p

Welcome to the west Johan. lol
We used to be plagued with them at work and at home. Used an old squirrel trap of the classic jaw persuation and caught the one from under our porch when we first bought the property. I pulled him out from under the side walk and Dad did the deed with the spade. Good times.........

Lately it is the little sparrows driving us nuts. We have a bunch of little eaves on our house and the shake guys did not fill the gaps. We had them living in under the soffit. I had enough and filled the holes with spray in foam. That got their attention. That should put a stop to them deficating on our vehicles for sport. I only wish the Ithaca 16ga could come out to play...........

The carbon monoxide idea is great too. If there are as many butter balls running about as I think there is you will not need three "pops". Best get a keg.

If you weren't in the city I'd say TNT take the entire colony out with a quarter stick and watch the pyrotechnics but alas so I'd have to say a trap would be your best be as most cites as stated above have laws about discharging pellet guns even under 500fps I should know I asked a cop and got a lecture and this was in a small town. If you can flood them out that would work too lets not forget some nice and nasty concertina wire along the fence I've seen that stuff all in some interesting looping patterns through and around Wood and chain link fences darn little can get thought that stuff with out looking like a loser of a cat fight.

Any way you go about it I wish you the best of luck.
