What magnification would be best for blasting gophers with my .223 out to about 150yards? And probably shooting paper out to a max of 500yards? I think I'll be sticking with something in the busnell elite 3200 or 4200 series.

The 4200 would be better as the crosshairs on the 3200 are really thick.

You should look at the 6x24's
About 16x zoom should be enough but 24x max will keep u happy all day and if u wana use the mildots just devise by half when ur on 24x :)

Things you wana look for the most is a scope with parallax adj and fine crosshairs. This will allow you to see and aim at what you want to shoot clearly.

I love the 10x Elite for gophers ( love the target turrets). On my .222, I use it out to 300 on them. A 6x24 is nice too but only use one on my Mossy 144lsb .22 as it lets you see the small critters way out there.

I use a Mueller 4.5-14x40mm A.O. on my .17. It's been a good accurate scope. I picked mine up from White Falls in Winnipeg.

6x18 on my 17 hmr because I want to place the bullet in their brain but a 3x12 on my mini because a hit is almost always a kill.12 power is easy to find your target and early season I get a lot of walk ons.Shooting them in the nose take more power just killing them does,nt
