Gopher shooting in the Medicine Hat area?

New to the city (moved in Aug of last year). Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or does anyone want another shooter?:D For now my arsenal is composed of 1 10/22 LR and 1 10/22 Magnum.

I would look to the east of town toward Irvine. Or head south on 41. Lots of gopher country. Other possibilties would be off the 524 going toward Hays. Could try inquiring at the Outdoorsman in the Hat.

Went south on the 41 today. My wife and I spend the day in Elkwater hiking. I can see what you mean by heading this way. On both sides of the 41 there is a ton of pasture land. The only thing is is that there is so much land, how do I know which little farm house owns that land? I guess other than knocking on doors there is no other way. That is one thing that I am afraid to do is ask permission to shoot on their land. I am afraid of getting rejected and being told NO :D

You should pick up a county map for the area you want to shoot gophers in because it will indicate who owns which sections of land. Sometimes you can just look up the land owner's name in the telephone book and give them a call to ask if they would allow you to "thin out" the gophers.

Don't be afraid of people saying no. Some will of course, but farmers / ranchers generally hate gophers and shooting them is a good way to get rid of them. When you ask permission just be polite and make a good impression of your self... "Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you might allow me permission to shoot a few gophers on your property?" If they say no, thank them any way. I'd bet that you get more people saying yes than no. If they say yes, ask if there is anything that you should be aware of such as livestock. It gets easier each time you ask someone for permission to shoot on their land. You might be surprised at how helpful some people will be. I've asked permission to hunt deer on private property and more than one time the land owner has told me where the deer hang out.
 
Thanks Scott_N for the advice. I will look into getting a county map and I will also look into getting some balls to go and ask permission :D

Don't even think about hunting on the base. You will get in so much shiit your grandkids will be wiping!
 
Id go with ya, but I live in Lethbridge :(

Just ask almost any farmer, most are more than happy to let you know where you can shoot, or will direct you to another farmer that has gopher problems!!
 
Hey captain2k_ca, I'd be more then happy to set up a day with you and drive to Lethbridge if you have a spot that needs some blasting.
 
You can get a landowners map in Dunmore for Cypress County. Getting access is pretty simple for the most part. Closer to Elkwater, you run into urban refugees who are anti's. North on the 41 can get you some great gopher shooting too.
