Gopher time

Anschutz 1710 with a CZ 452 Lux for back up. Ya, should have been out before, been busy on the acreage, building pallet forks and a road maintainer.

The snow just finally cleared last week in the patch I shoot. Hoping to get out next week. With the late snow, I'm guessing I'll be shooting into late July.

I'm "Alberta-bound" myself in a few weeks. :) My nephew and I will be putting a serious hurt on the gophers while there. In fact, that's the whole reason we're going. Again. :)

CZ452 Varmint 22LR
Marlin 917 (HB) 17HMR
Mossberg 500 12ga.

.....and LOTS of ammo.

Time to go and find new fields, my best fields just changed hands and the new owners broke the pasture to seed to crop. Really good fields are hard to find in my area.

Sounds like the groundhog fields here in Ontario. The aging farmers (who stuck with hay forever) are starting to lease their land to local Mennonites, none of whom seem to keep them in hay. Mostly corn, or at least...they start with that. Means a little more door-knocking.

Cleaned up my gopher primaries this morning. They were looking so darned good, they just needed a group photo.

^Nice! Is the middle gun a 452 LUX? Pretty much identical to my BRNO 2E

There will be photos-o-plenty in the wake of our gopher trip...and even more if we really get into them. :)

Yup, that's my 452 Lux. Some of the best $$ I've ever spent on a gun. Just a laser, even with the 1650FPS CCI Segmented Hollow Points. Gophers don't stand a chance at anything out to 100 yards with that thing.

The 2E and the Lux are, essentially, the same gun from the same factory, before CZ moved all the tooling and closed down the old plant. Such a shame about that, Brno, both the city and the plant, had centuries of quality firearms manufacturing history. Generations of gunsmiths, passing down the skills from father to son.

Ran into an older Czech fellow a few years ago out in the foothills, he almost wept when he saw that gun. He was from Brno, and he recognized every line of the gun and stock by heart from working the shop floor before he moved to Canada.

Speaking of which, didn't I run into you at the fall Calgary Gun show a couple or three years back?

Was out for a good time, not a long time. Body count 108 between 9:45 and 2 pm. They seemed to go for a nap about that time, hardly any to be seen. CCI subsonic hp, no issues.

Same thing on my stomping grounds. I made it out on May 3rd with my dad for the first time this year. Too windy, gusting over 40km/h, most would only stick an eye out to see what was going on above ground. Still managed to get almost 40 of 'em.

Went back there yesterday, the dad couldn't make it out so I was solo. Beautiful conditions, no wind for the first couple hours, then only ~20km/h wind in the afternoon. Lost count early in the morning, but a conservative guess would be 250 gophers down. The trusty 452V with CCI Subsonic HP's puts the hurt on!

Heading back there now, just finishing this post and a coffee! Supposed to hit 27c today so I imagine the shy ones will even come out to play for a bit!
