I live in wayyy north Edmonton and I`m looking to do some gopher shooting. Now, north of Edmonton is Sturgeon county that has a *No Discharge* law.
So I'm looking for any responsible shooters who are willing to share with me any good gopher spots in the south or east of Edmonton for an occasional saturday of gopher nuking.
(I promise not to give the location away)
I know it would be a blast...(pardon the pun)

Heck..I`ll supply the .22s and LR ammo. :shotgun:

Cooey 64B semi with a 3-6X
Winchester 69A bolt with peep sights (a tack driver at 50 meters.)
Squires Bingham semi M-20 with a 4X (50 meter 10x shooter as well)
CIL 171 bolt with open sights.

I know this sounds kinda like begging, but I have no time due to work to look for a farmer willing to let a stranger on his land with a gun.

Rick

There's lots of gophers out towards Wainwright, I just got back from a gopher killing frenzy out that way today. Though I'd aslo suggest a good centerfire as well as the rimfires, a lot of the shooting ends up in the 150-300+ yard range.

Plus, CF's make a more entertaining splatt

Just check out the events forum as we just had another shoot out here this afternoon. Look under the edmonton gopher outtings thread and i am sure that you will find what you are looking for.

I am just the cook for the day and the dude that gets access for the fun..( i have access to over 35000 acres out here right now) damn if you wanna supply the ammo thats even better but i will warn you....one day of shooting out here now will probably break your bank account.

Maybe its just better to show up with a half dozen rifles and ammo for each of them...Grizz and Prosper come out of the city to shoot here and i live here. Its just basic rules and i will let you know where to shoot and where not to..farm sites and and such

You are more then welcome aboard...just remember anything goes out here and what ever rifles you have probably aint big enuff....above all its just a fun day away from stress..:D :D

Just remember. Bring LOOOOOOOTTS of ammo :) Last week I went through two bricks, and today I burned through a brick, 3 boxes of shot shells, 14 378 wbys, 150 22 Hornets, 2 dozen 204s, 2 dozen 17 rems, and a hundred 222s. And a handful of 44s :D :D

Oh, and a bunch of us usually try to carpool to save on gas; like I said, it's in Viking - out towards Wainwright, about 350k round trip for me

i'm flying out to Wainwright from vancouver to see my sister. i was gonna bring a 22 and 30\06 since i havent had a chance to shoot it yet and get me some gophers. might sound silly but i just want to cover my ass here. i was told that they are considered pests there for open game with no hunting licences required. is this correct? should i even bother with the 06? i don't have anything in between...yet

ummm....my dads WWII footlocker has about 11,000 rnds in it at last count. :D
i buy my .22, 12 ga., and 7.62x39 by the case...the .45 auto, .44 magnum by the brick. i have maybe 100 rnds of 6.5x55 but thats my *deer* ammo. (which i haven`t done since `91 in ontario :( ) also have 20 rnds of .303, but that gun needs serious work as it REALLY wanders after a few shots (needs bedding work?)

dunno if you both are talking about the same shooting spot...

all in all...i appreciate the offer, but if i can`t get to within 100 yrds maximum range then i`m hooped. i don`t own small calibre firearms (.223, 22-250, etc) with the range to reach a ground pig out to 300 yrds. and the bigger center fire stuff is too expensive to buy in quantity.
i did build up a SKS with a new stock, bi-pod, and BIIIG scope but it just doesn`t shoot consistantly to hit a gopher beyond a 100 yrds. i know, i know..i was warned by others here not to waste the money but i didn`t listen.

i would still like to try with my .22s though and the sks as well, maybe my mossburg 590 too (splatter) :D ...maybe we could get together one weekend...i`m leaving for ontario for a holiday on june 22nd and will get back on july 1st so anytime after that would be cool.
let me know.

again, i really appreciate the offer.

You are not hooped at all out here. Shots range from 2 feet literally and i mean 2 feet to as far as you want them. No varmint center fire ,no problem ,at all ,as we have lots of them that we take out every time we go so that is covered. I use right from a 22 up to the 460 wby on them and we have just about everything in between.

Its just a fun day out with lots of fresh air and good company so feel more then welcome if you want to join us for a day of nuking small critters.:shotgun:

You might also be surprised at how far out a 22lr can reach. Especially if it's a semi and you have 25 rounds at your disposal to 'walk it in' with :D :D

^^^^^^ Brad like your tag line there but it sounds like Narcissism....definately not elitist..yup Narcissism...now sell me that dang 378 to fill the void i have in my gun safe..

Right, but is it REALLY narcissistic if it's true? :p

And I'm starting to worry about bringing out the 378 again. I'm starting to think that if I *do*, I might suffer a hunting "accident" :p :p

Definate narcissim now....WAY back when and i am sure Pete will remember this there once was a young lad named Narcissis who went to the Gods and asked why there was no young ladies that were fit for him to marry or be with. The gods banished him to a pond and told him to look at his reflection for a while.

As he gazed into the pond he fell in love with him self and decided that no woman could ever have his heart as he was way to perfect for any of them.

So in short just sell me the 378 and life should be good.....i will even give you visitation rights and maybe let you put your pinkies on it..:D

only 25 rnds?

i have a "squires bingham" m-20 semi with a 30 rnd banana mag as well as the original 15 rnd mag.
plus my cooey 64B semi has two 10 rnd mags.
good thing .22 ammo is cheap

Rick I have been invited out to meet Prosper and Ice but due to sporting clays commiments I haven't been free to get out to Viking for some shooting, or for some of those fine Viking weiners, but I have heard that when it comes to a great gopher shoot these are the guys to go with, so take what ever opportunity you can to join these fellows. FS

*Ahem!* you forgot someone :p But that is because I didn't notice this topic until now :p

I still have your Paco Tool... when did you want me to drop by and return it to you?

Pete I guess ing you didn't like the tool? Sorry for leaving you out of my last post. I'm around all week then out of town all next week, FS

No worries on the omission, I was just buggin' :p

I think the tool is GREAT, it's just a shame neither of my rifles did. Had all kinds of feeding problems with them. I found using the nasti-nose only made feeding alot better, but it still wasn't the greatest. I'm actually going to talk to dad over the weekend and see if he can sneak onto one of the lathes at work (he rides a desk now) and keep his machining skills sharp by turning something similar, probably with a steeper profile to make feeding more reliable.
