It appears Snopher season is over. No more snow naps just dirt naps from now on. I’ve been going hard at the gophers for a month now. 2500 rounds through 2 new CZ 22LR and 1000 through a Tikka 17 HMR. They seem to never stop coming up. Old pasture land that had been broke up to farm it is the perfect breeding ground for them. Hopefully I can get them under control before its time to seed.

God, I need to go to Saskatchewan soon, lol.

Still covered in white here, well white and red over the past few days. Got lots of the little bastards on my place this year! Hopefully it’s sunny and warm tomorrow and I can make it more red ;)

I’ve got a relative lined up to come help. I buy the ammo and give him some beef, he can help provide some dirt naps. It helps when he knows the area.

We don’t have any of these critters. What kinda population density are you guys looking at per acre when it comes to these critters? Do you need to keep moving to different fields for action or are there enough around that you can just sit in own spot and whack a bunch?

At some of the gopher towns you could shoot 20 or 30 and then wait for the barrel to cool.
The rest would come up to feed on the dead ones and let the shooting begin.
We shot up to 150 on a 160 acre pasture. It had never been hunted before.

Supposedly it’s just males out right now. They come up to feed and sacrifice them for the greater good. Females come up later. I’m making my rounds on a couple sections of land. Most of it was in tame grass used for grazing. I’m guessing the populations are in the tens of thousands. They are very hard on crops until late June then they hibernate. I don’t care what gender they are I’ll shoot them all if I can. You can’t exterminate rodents unless you’re Alberta whom is rat “free”. Only rats there are transient and wear Saskatchewan Roughrider jerseys I’m told…

We don't have many gophers , just Marmots .

Here's a flash-back to last season & a sign of
things to come.

I can remember going through a brick of 22lr, multiple days in a row, on one field. About five years ago, I killed 340 in a morning, but my two landowners both sold thier land, and it was put into crop, which drove most of them out.
