I hit the jackpot today!! My part-time boss sent me to a patch where gophers have chewed off about 15-20 acres of canola. There is small patch of spring wheat seeded in the middle, but it is pretty much bare on three sides, with the whole thing bordered by canola.

I probably shot 150+ from 4:00 until 7:00. Excellent conditions, no wind, hot, almost no trash on the field. The last half hour I must have shot 15 coming down a trail with their mouths stuffed full.

All is not lost after all!!!! :D:sniper:

Where I am working SE of Saskatoon, I cannot bring guns. The gophers are plentiful!

At home, west of Saskatoon. Never see the things. What gives.

A friend and I went out again on Saturday afternoon and smoked another 50 or so. Great way to spend a nice summer afternoon, solving world problems and shooting gophers. :)

Great to hear! The spot I have permission on, we cleared about 400 one day, now the grass is almost too tall. You sure can hear them, just can`t see the buggers....Thats aggravating!!!!
Just got a text this morning about an active coyote den and some skunks....might head out this afternoon!

I`ve got gophers eating crop as well but they are very skittish, not sure why. The coyotes and badgers have been working them over as well. May have to break out the 204 and go long range. :D

My eldest daughter and I are headed out tomorrow morning. We'll probably only see 20-or-40 in 3 or 4 hours of walking around; but it's nice "together time".
Maybe I'll remember to take the camera this time.

I finally bought a 204 this winter to shoot gophers at long range:sniper:but with the shortage of sodrats this year I have only managed to shoot one gopher:eek: but it sure makes the pigeons on my grain bins explode.

I blasted around 100 or so last Friday. My buddy and I have been working this one 80 acre patch for the last 5 years, lol. The surrounding fields keep replenishing the population every year.

Blasting gophers with a shotgun is good for the soul. A few years ago, a buddy and I spent a couple of hours in an abandoned farm yard shooting with 12 gauge. I just couldn't stop giggling every time he would blast one. We creamed a pile of gophers.

Then we walked down a little road for a ways and peppered gophers in both directions, on both sides. Sure beats sitting in Starbucks pretending you are bigshot!!:D

WOW.......now ya got me thinking.......pellets and gophers.....
Close range, 12 gauge.
Medium range......22 rimfire.
Longer range.....17hmr.
Bit furder......308win with tiny bullets.
More furder.......50 bfm?

Sooo, back to the scatter gun.
What size pellets?
Double OO buck?
Slug if yer fiesty?
8 if yu'all got blury eyes frum kurring the world?
You're holding back on us there john.......K?

The daughter and I went out this morning... We saw about 10 gophers! Sheesh, I'm going to have to find someplace else, I guess. It was a nice walk and all; but she was quite disappointed.
