Gorgeous wood on a . . . Mossberg?

Wow that's a nice stock.....almost too nice for that rifle.

That almost sounded like a derogatory remark regarding Mossbergs. ;) Have you ever shot any of those older Mossberg rifles? They may look different, but they sure do shoot!!! I'll guarantee one thing, you'll have to spend a lot more than the cost of one of those Mossys to get a 10-22 to shoot like one. :D Regards, Eagleye

Well said, I have a 146b that is deadly accurate with the stock peep sights. I run the .22 club at Abbotsford and at 25yds she keeps up easily with Anschutz & CIL/Anschutz sporter/target rifles that have much better sights. one of our regular shooters shoots near perfect scores every week with a 46b. Gotta love these old mossies :D Not to mention I can drop 20 lr's or 35 shorts in the tube mag and plink away. :sniper:

mossbergs were good guns at reasonable prices in the 40's&50's many military training programs were done with mossbergs, the fact that they made their own sight systems and that you could put a complete package together without resorting to a gunsmith was a value in itself. unfortunatly the use of plastic associated with abusive handling caused problems-- however I have one from the early fifties with apeture rear sight-- target front sight that could be had for 1/4 the price of anything comparable and the plastic bits are still sound, shrunk a bit that's all..

mossberg interest

if anyone wants to find out more about these great rifles google in ...home.epix.net/damguy you will see and find out everything about Mossberg's...later Joe

I own a lot of 22 rimfires, including some very highly regarded accuracy oriented models. I also own about 10 Mossbergs of several flavors. Not being an Elitist, I enjoy these old Mossbergs, and plink a lot with them. I have 2-146b's, and they are very deceiving to the uninformed. I was at the range a few weeks ago, and pulled one of my 146b's out of a case, whereupon a shooter at the bench looked down his nose and proceded to inform me that I needed to upgrade before I would be able to be competitive at 50 Meters. His tricked out 10-22 did not intimidate me in the least, and once the dust settled, he begrudgingly admitted that perhaps an upgrade was not necessary!! This happens often enough to make me smile when I think fondly about these rather inexpensive 22's that shoot so very well. Regards, Eagleye.

I had about 10 mossy's at one time, sold all but the 3 top shooters.
46
46b
146b-a
All 3 of them are riduclously accurate for $100-$125 rifles.

I paid $75.00 for one of my 146b's, $100.00 for the other, both are amazingly accurate for $$ invested. Ditto my 2-42m's,( "b" & "c" models) and I have a 151M(c) that, for a unaltered semi-auto, would astound many. My 152 with the fold down front stock is no slouch for a semi either. The list continues. Regards, Eagleye.

I've owned a couple of them (146b or a and a 42M) and they are very nice rifles......but a rifle that can be had for so cheap sporting that kind of wood is insane (especially by todays standards). Why are these things worth so little? The 2 I owned I paid less than $100 for as well. The accuracy is there, the build quality is there, why are the values so ridiculously low?

Shhhhh.. It's supposed to be a secret;) Actually if you look on some of the American trader sites you'll find that the prices for these fine old rifles are on the increase... the Canadian market won't be far behind.

Cheers
