got my 300 H&H back.....

Very, very, nice. Now, Rembo, we await your report on the loads...

I agree wholeheartedly with Bill on the "classic" stock designs of today. They really are not the classic stock that was traditionally used for hunting when shooting was done offhand. Silhouette shooting quickly let me know how little of yesteryear's skill I actually had. It took considerable time, but I became a much better rifle shot.

When I was a younger man, just out of the Army (1971), a place called Fred Warren's Sporting Goods, in Lewiston, Idaho, always had a rack full off 722's and 721's. The cheapest ones were in cartridges like 300 Savage and usually went for about 85.00. A 257 Roberts would bring a premium and the asking price would be more like 110.00. By far the cream of the crop though were the 300 H&H models which were often priced as high as 125.00. To put these prices in perspective though, for the kids on the forum, I paid 225.00 for a brand new Ruger Number One and this was the equivalent of two weeks take-home pay from loading boxcars at a sawmill. You would just about have to add a zero to each of these prices to convert them to todays pesos. At the same time, a real good pre-64 300 H&H would probably bring 275.00 or better. My father -in law had one as his primary hunting rifle and, years later, bought another just-in-case. My brother in law inherited those rifles and that started him collecting 300 H&H rifles so he has newer Winchesters, Remingtons in 721 and 700, Sakos, Brownings and FN's. All safe queens. I have to mention, I don't think I have ever seen a 300 H&H, if in good condition, which did not shoot exceptionally well.

Looks okay to me, Kevan.

Just needs a front sight and a flip up "peep" on the rear of the scope base, and I know a guy who has one. ;)

It's yours if you want it.
Ted

I will gratefully accept Ted, what a coincidence as I have been looking for same a long time.
Can you PM me with price & details please ?

Hi Kevan,

I have only the little sight, not the entire base. You will have to have the base drilled and tapped to fit the sight.

Take your Sweetheart out for a coffee and desert, tell her you love her a few times, then tell her again, and we're square. We men don't do that enough.

Just PM me your mailing address,
Ted

I do that all the time... and get nothing back.

Of course, my M77 International 7X57 can't speak...

Here is my old plain Remington, makes that Winchester look even better..

I had one just like that 5 or 6 years ago. Got it from Granlund's. Still have pics of it. I refinished the stock myself and it was sold to a guy on this forum from southern Alberta. Bet he still has it.

Ted W got the scope off of it which IIRC was a decent old B&L 2-7 or something like that.

Thanks Ted, we have been doing just that together for more than a couple decades.
We firmly believe that we are more in love with every passing day.

You implying that the M77 drink coffee and eat dessert? :)

No... I eat the dessert and drink the coffee and tell her hat I love "her."

But in all seriousness... we are going to have our 29th in a few months, so there have been a lot of good times.
