It sure is a great quality rifle!
Altho it's a Meistergrade stock, I've seen better wood.

But...(why does it always have to be a 'but'?), I'm surprised by the weight of the rifle, Anschutz state 8lbs for that rifle, so I wasn't expecting a featerweight, but the 'nose heavy' feel is kinda annoying.
When I removed the stock to adjust the trigger, I found the stock to be really light, so that's probably why the rifle is so nose heavy when carrying it. When I hold it beside me with one hand, I have to hold it from the front of the forestock to keep it in balance.
Having another Match 54 Target rifle to shoot from the bench, I'm looking to hunt with that rifle. I'm wondering, just wondering, if I shouldn't have taken the Cooper route for that price...
Today, I'll try to take it out for some shooting, the shooting range is closed under the snow, but maybe I'll find some remote place where I can shoot from my truck box. Of course, I'll probably forget the weight issue when I see the groupings ;)
Anyway, just wanted to give my 1st feedback here.

Nice gun! I find most guns a little muzzle-heavy, especially heavy or medium contour barrels. (for obvious reasons) I carry my CZ with a sling, muzzle down on my left side. Keeps the bolt handle away from my side and it's no issue. Almost none of my shots are off-hand, I shoot prone when hunting when possible. The weight is on the sturdy Harris bipod...still no issue.

Well, I'm just in from some shooting tests. I cleaned the barrel, put a less heavy scope on it to try rifle balance, (a Banner 4-12x40).
I did find a place to shoot, but it was only 40 yards, which isn't bad. Ammo were 15yrs old CCI Green Tag (remember the green box?), some CCI Standard Velocity (new era) and Federal Gold Medal 711B.
I put some sand bags on top of the Tuff Box in the rear of my pickup, and shot standing beside the truck. I found out after a couple of groups that I had to take care to put same weight on stock for each shot otherwise group would string vertical, and by shooting standing it wasn't that easy.

Anyway, 1st target is with the CCI ammo and Banner 4-12 scope. 1st few group looks like barrel wasn't fouled enough (I shot 5 shots to sight-in/foul bore).
Some vertical dispersion too.

Next target is with Fed 711B, Banner 4-12 scope. I shot 5 shots to season the barrel to new bullet, then went on with the groups. I found out that I should have shot more with new bullet after the CCI, because she really began to shoot at the 4th and 5th groups.

Next I put the Bushnell 4200 6-24 back on, boresighted it by eyesight, thru the bore, and it was right on target, so I began shooting right away. Still with Fed 711B. Take note that the shift in POI is because I was playing with the turrets a bit between groups.

Lastly, I went back to shoot CCI with the 6-24 scope, I shot the middle group of 10 shots with CCI's SV on a bipod to season the barrel to new bullet, and then shot the 4 groups with the Green Tag.

Targets are 1 inch red circle, grid are 1/2 inch. She shot two 1/4.in groups with the 711B. Considering that I was shooting standing up, sandbags resting on a plastic box and that I'm not the best shooter, I'm very satisfied to say the least.

Yes, I'll manage the weight!! :D

Can you tell me if the front of the barrel is grooved
for a front sight or is it strictly scope only and where
does one find Anschutz rifles in Canada these days?

No, the barrel isn't grooved to put a front sight, it's scoped only.

It's a used one, supposed to have been a safe queen, barrel is stamped AE, so I think it's a 2004.

I've made a 1710 HB tribute with an Anschutz girl for my desktop in 1680x1050 ;) :

LOL, so what, Weaver bases and Burris Zee rings aren't up to par?

I was shooting the 4-12 Bushy with 11mm dovetail .22 rings and it brought the performance in! ;)

BTW, the desktop wallpaper was made with pics of rifles from the Anschutz site, it's not my rifle, unfortunatly.

Very nice rifle, I have a 1730HB in 22 Hornet that looks very similar, but it is the standard grade. You really can't fault the 54 action or the trigger, and they do shoot very well.

Why isn't anyone giving him the gears about his bases (same one's I have and everyone on here gooned me for that)

Because your rifle was a very high grade custom Cooper. By the way, I have Talleys on my 1730, and I would use them again if I purchased another Anschutz.
 
Nice Annie, but seem to always find another fine rimfire to buy when a nice Meister grade comes up! Still looking for a Meister sporter in 22lr for my collection?
Too bad they did not put some tigh figured walnut in the but to balance the gun out, that would have helped a bit! cheers on another accurate quality built rimfire! Dale Z.
