Got my bear back!

Trying to decide if that's a Black or a Grizzly. Length of claws says Grizz, but hard to tell from the rest of the mount. Definitely an amazing job. ;)

Grizz

It's a blackie. I was originally just going to have the head mounted since I already have a rug, but I couldn't get over the paws on the guy so I decided to do the half life size instead.

Oh that's a nice mount. Congrats.

Would love to have one done up like that one of these days. Reminds me I gotta do something with the hide from last springs boar. Thinking simply tanned for a rug.

At the end of the day, a hunt is personal experience and it should be reflected in the mount.....a mount is a very personal decision.....

As much as anyone (myself included), picked at the op, he has something special on his hands, a cinnamon phase blackie with exceptional claws.... None of us can deny that..... There is no doubt in my mind that some critter saw that same bear in a similar pose at some point...... I think the mount is cool....... Those claws are impressive..... Have harvested many blackies of various sizes, some bigger than this bear, but none with claws that size...... Wow

That snout doesn't look like a typical black bear, and the skull in the picture is a bit different as well. Black bear skulls usually have very little slope from above the eye sockets to the nose bridge, whereas it's pronounced with grizzly. Add to that the long claws. Maybe there are some grizzly genes in this bear yet.
Pretty cool.

I'm thinking someone shot a young Grizz by mistake here. That ain't no Black Bear face in the field photographs.

Well, my .02 worth ...
Knowing who the taxidermist is and that he is licensed to practice the art in BC with the blessing of the CRA, the Province of BC and the Province of BC Conservation Department and that he has much experience in CITES Permits I would suggest that the chance of this being a misidentified young Grizzly Bear are slim...very slim.
Grizzly Adams, I am not calling you out on your opinion, just providing some back ground on who the taxidermist is....
The only dog I have in this thread is that Ray has an Extra Large Lynx pelt of mine that he was doing some final fleshing on before it going to Black-Powder Tanning in Langley BC.

There have been bears taken that are hybrid Grizz x Polar Bear so a hybrid Black x Grizz is entirely possible as well. Honestly looking at the mount my first thought was nice cinammon until I saw those claws then thought that is a young Grizzly. It's very unique that is for sure.
