When I was at the Gun Show in Fredericton on Labour Day a friend of mine presented me with my BLR .22 that I left at the gunsmith in 1999.
Its missing some parts but I have it back finally. It went down to get the stocks refinished and replace the missing rear sight. Why he took it apart I will never know, but he did and lost parts, or robbed a part for another customer.
He has dementia now but with help was able to pick out the parts he had sitting around the shop.
I have been trying to get the gun back for the past 7 or 8 years, but he wouldn't give it up.

good for you !
your gunsmith is slow and he is not a good man. who is he ?

What does it matter...

The GS now has Dementia and there is nothing more that can be done for him.

Public shaming certainly will not bring the gun back to it former glory nor end his suffering

Even though he had my gun all these years, I still like the old guy.
His only child a nice young guy lost his wife last year, after she suffered from cancer for four years.
Then his wife got a brain tumor and passed away a few months ago and the stress really brought out his illness.
He and his wife were both hospitalized at the same time.

Sad. Glad you got it back. My Dad had a Browning BAR22 that he loaned to his brother. The brother took it apart and cleaned it before he returned it. (missing some parts!!) There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find missing Browning gun parts.

Interesting story, hits home a little too. I have a shotgun barrel out for refinishing and the fellow doing it is very advanced in years. He asked for very detailed contact information (which I was happy to give) but then added; "my wife keeps track of all this for me...you never know~I could die and guys might never get their barrels back!"

I appreciated the pragmatic approach, and as a result...had no problem leaving it with him. The 3 week job has hit about the 5-1/2 week mark, but I'm confident the job will be good.

Glad you got your rifle back.

I took it to a young gunsmith on PEI this past weekend and he put the gun back together, found a replacement part for the gun within hours of me leaving the gun with him.

I watched him do something that will revive old shotguns for modern duck hunters.
He was taking the fixed chokes out of older shotguns barrels so they can be used for steel shot.
He does about 50+ barrels a year.
