Bear had been hitting bait for about 2 weeks, first time out hunting sat 5 minutes out walks the bear. Boom it's all over, small sow about 200 lbs. Shot her under the chin, bullet hit the spine at the base of the neck. 160 gr.TSX 7mmstw, bullet travelled through roughly 16" of spinal column and wound up in the fat at her waist, bullet weighs 132.7 gr. and is missing 3 petals. First time I ever recovered a Barnes X. What a bullet 16" of bone.

I told you that you would recover the bullet out of the spine! ;) There was no exit wound............very interesting indeed.

PS) That bear did not have enough fat on it to last the winter, it's a good thing you shot it. :p

What do you guys want to see? It was about a 200 pound sow, expired due to extreme trauma to the spinal cord brought on by a .284 cal high speed projectile lovingly placed in the exact kill zone by one of the best shots I ever met. Dead bear, and now so much bear meat.

Doug

Congrats on your bear. We have taken the hind hams in and had the butcher smoke them for us . Sliced it thin ,tasted just like corned beef. Also great as garlic sausages or small roast in the slow cooker with veggies.

Straight Shooting
