Here she is boys. A J.P. Clabrough made circa 1892/93. Locks up tight as a vault with absolutely no play. Breeches are tight on face. Bore is shiny and with no pitting. Still has a few patches of case coloring. Barrels were proofed when it was made, and then again sometime after 1904 for some reason. Right barrel is cylinder and the left has full choke. Now I need to load up some black powder loads and try it out.

Beautiful.

Is it antique class? I'd love something like that to go with my Colts if it were antique class.

It is a 12 Gauge, but only takes 2 & 1/2" shells. Even though they don't make 2 & 1/2" shells, it still is not an antique, since it is 12 Ga. I'll be reloading my own, so the shells are no problem.

Tactical, this first double has given me the desire for more, once my wallet recovers.

Put up a pic of the proof marks on the bottom of the barrels. I have a feeling that it was re-proofed in 1904 to prove it for Nitro powder. I myself have a really nice Birmingham double made in the same era, but it only weighs 5.75 lbs., and it is also a 2 1/2" 12 gauge.

If it is Nitro Proved, 2 1/2" 12 gauge shells are readily available from Gamebore and Eley and more.

Just an update to mention that I now have a good supply of shotgun shells and a Lee handloader for the 12 Ga. I just need to purchase some powder and shot and I'm ready to go. I probably won't get around to trying out my reloads until spring.

She looks lovely.

But your display rack needs some work. For me one of the more important aspects of guns of this type is the shape of the pistol grip area. Your rack unfortunetly hides this in a most intrusive way. Far better would be to let it sit slightly barrel down with wider spaced and slightly smaller hooks that allow the fine old lady to be seated sitting on points mid stock and mid barrel so both the pistol grip and action areas are fully exposed. The eyes of the observers will extend the hidden straight lines on such a rack but as shown the mind cannot fill in the hidden details.

Hell, it's bad enough that it needs that trigger lock intruding on the magic.... :D

BCRider, I like your ideas for the display rack. A rack built according to your suggestions would really improve the display of the old SxS. All my display racks have accumulated over the past 20 years and it is time to make some news ones that display my old guns to their best advantage.
