I'm stoked. I got my first shotgun today. I did countless hours of research and ended up with a gun that best suited my needs and my budget. The hardest part of figuring out what to get was understanding the questions I needed to ask. I have my brother DMcFaul to thank for the mentoring! Thanks Bro!

Anyway I got a Mossberg 535 ATS Turkey/Waterfowl combo. Before I completly thumb my nose at the 870 crowd, I'll put some loads through this gun and let you guys know how she works! It's a light gun, but I'm not going to be using 3.5" often enough to be concerned.

Good for you Xplorer Hope you put enough lead through to make the enviromentalists cringe. And remember don't let the kids touch the barrel the may get poisoned. Good thing its not lead painted they may recall it.

Congratulations! And hey, some of us 870 guys have absolutely nothing against Mossys. A Mossy 500 was the gun that made me realize that I absolutely needed a pump 12-gauge, and I'd certainly get one myself if the opportunity presented itself.

Enjoy!

Congratulations on your new purchase.I'm sure you did well.I just bought a Mossberg 500, and it is built like a tank.Tell us what it is like firing off those 3 1/2 inch rounds.Must kick like a mule.Is that a factory Redot?

No sir, it's a Tasco Pro Point. I would suggest sticking to Bushnell if you have an expensive gun, but I think this little red dot will light up the head of a turkey just fine.

I'm sure the red dot is going to be accurate right up to the first 3.5 I put through the gun! LOL. This thing will shoot 3.5, and the shop I bought it from was kind enough to toss in a bod ot 3.5 Turkey load. #6 Kent I think? I'll let you know how long it takes for the bruising to go down once I try it.

Somone once told me that this isn't going to be a good barbie gun, but once I get a Mossy Oak matching adjustable tactical stock for it I'm sure that we will be dating for along time. I think it looks pretty sweet right out of the box, and I can't wait to test it out.

I'll let you guys now how it handles 2 3/4, 3, and 3.5 as soon as I can. I'll start a new thread. I know there isn't alot of info or reviews of the 535 Turkey/Waterfowl out there. Personally, I don't think you can beat this gun for $450.

Mossber 535 Turkey/Waterfowl;
22"VR XX-Full Turkey choke installed, Fiber Optic Adj Rifle Sights
28"VR comes with Improved, Modified, and Full Chokes, Fiber OpticFront Sight
It accepts all modle 500 stocks, but not barrels and yes, It can shoot slugs.
So then, what can't it do? \m/

Congrats bro... We'll put her through her paces in short order. I think you made a good choice.

Now start practicing your turkey calls, because the season is coming fast. ;) Look forward to having you out with us this year!

PS.

I'm sorry to inform you that since this is your first shotty, you're going to HAVE to accept a couple boxes of ammo, on me. Unfortunatly they're going to be slugs, 00 & 000. (You did say that was a 3.5" right?) :D Welcome to the club!

LOL, f#cker. At least wait until I get a new stock! This one seems a little thin!
Seriously though I want to know what it can take, so I'll take what ever you throw at me! 3.5" 00 makes my eye twitch thinking about it. I think I just developed a nervous tick.

What configuration would I have to use for slugs? 28" with Improved choke?

I just bought a Mossberg 500 as well, one of those JIC kits that comes in the tube. Haven't got a chance to shoot it yet, but just went out and bought three boxes of slugs yesterday.

LOL, I was thinking about that! I hope that it never falls off of an atv or something!

BTW, I really love the Mossy Oak New Break-Up camo. I'm still getting over the price vs coolness factor that this gun is providing.

I used the Max 4 HD 535 for two goose hunts this season and it is an excellent gun, and the 31/2 feature is definitely nice and so is the price and the quality. The only problem is that they are faitly new and rifled barrells are uhcommon right now.
