I received my PAL & RPAL a couple days ago! WOOoHOOo! So now I have to purchase a firearm... I'm thinking of ordering online but I was told you have to have an ATT if you live in BC to order one. I thought you applied for an ATT when you own a firearm? Oh and it's a restricted handgun I am looking to purchase.
One more thing.. if I were to purchase a handgun at a store locally, how long does it usually take until you actually get it?
I cant wait!
Thanks,
Brian

Good for you man welcome to the insanity!
Really it all depends on where you live when it comes to getting that new gun in your hot little hands. Here in AB, the transfer takes maybe a few days and you can get the TATT and regular ATT faxed to you within 20 minutes usually once you have the transfer completed. Once you have that you're walking out the door with it. Can't tell you exactly how it works in BC, unfortunately.
I bought a .357 off a gunnut in Montreal well over a month ago, and I guess in Quebec the CFO will only snail mail the TATT to people, so that's why it took so long for the seller to even be able to bring the gun to the post office and mail it to me. The gun has been registered in my name for probably 4 weeks already! Go figure that one out, eh?

BC is the same as Alberta in that you need to be a member of a gun club where you can shoot your restricted in order for the CFC and the vendor to complete the transfer. Once the transfer is approved you will get the LTATT and TATT if required. If you do mail order no TATT is required if it gets delivered to your residence by CP.

Here is a tip: Fax or give a copy of your club membership card to the vendor and have them send it to the CFC when they initiate the transfer. I didn't do this and the CFC called me to fax it to them and it delayed the transfer for a couple of days. Just thank God that you don't live in Ontario because this process is 2-3 months

Hey guys thanks for the help. I just picked up a gun club membership this evening 8) What is a LTATT and TATT?
Edit: Long term ATT! nevermind :p
So what I have to do is place an order.. wait for the transfer to go through. Once that is approved and all I apply for my LTATT? And then the gun will be shipped out?

The gun can be shipped as soon as the transfer is complete. It depends on if you are getting it shipped via Canada post or picking it up as far as if you need a temp ATT or not. The transfer is approved through your provincial CFO and they will issue the ATT as soon as soon as the transfer is approved. My transfer and ATT were done in one phone call...as soon as they verified the transfer was done they emailed me the ATT 5 minutes later. Gotta love the West:D

Depending on where you are I believe mail order is the way to go. I live in Calgary and me and a buddy bought 4 pistols....2 from Edmonton, one from Saskatchewan and one from Manitoba. All were delivered no problem by Canada Post with no need for any Temporary ATT's. All from supporting vendors of this site: P&D Edmonton (lightning fast transfer & shipping). Frontier in Sask.(very fast as well) & Wolverine in Manitoba (again a good experience). Look to the links on top of the page and find what you need.

Still waiting for my PAL & RPAL to come in the mail. Been 10 days since it's been approved and in the mail.

I'm wondering is it CFC or is it CP that's delaying it's arrival?

Anyways Congrats and enjoy shooting.

After my approval it showed up on the 8th day...my friends showed up on the 15th day...I think they only mail once a week and if you miss it by a day you are into the 2nd week.

The long weekend slows things down nicely when it comes to CP, and obviously when you're looking for something to come quickly it never does, eh? ;)

I bought a pistol from the shooting edge and no problem there either with the transfer, etc. I think you can't go wrong using a dealer that's for sure, but it's very easy too if you buy from the EE using another gunnut, so don't rule that out either.
Now the hard part... PICKING something to buy!

Average is 2 weeks from time of approved and "in the mail" to when you actually get it. It's easy to think it's lost, stolen etc. but it will come before too long. Good advice is to buy through EE here as I have never been dissapointed and usually much better prices. (Except for a few real nuts asking 10 grand for something worth 2 on a good day)

10 days?? They typically take 7 weeks to come after you mail the whole package to them in new brunswick. They claim 45 days but it takes a little more IMHO. I'm confused, how was it already approved and in the mail?
