Got my M1A!

Well ordered it in November and picked it up from Gobles Gun and Tackle in London.

It came with one of those 5rd sporter magazines that are flush with the rifle. Didn't find it too bad to extract from the rifle by pushing it the "right way". Still wouldn't want to do that in a hurry so since I saw a 5/20 magazine on the shelf I picked it up too. :D

Anyways its a Loaded M1A model M9222 a walnut stocked with a carbon barrel.

It came with the fallowing marked USGI parts:

Op-Rod maked "7767064-2 SA"
Bolt marked "7790186-SA" Second line "F00177"
Trigger Housing marked "7267030-HR-N"
Hammer marked "SA D554008"

Very nice looking. I would be interested to discover what your chamber headspace is. We all know that most of the Marstar imported M14's are mic'ing about 10 thou give or take 2 thou.

PM me for instructions on sending some fired cases to me and then I can measure them for you.

My last M1A measured 7 thou above the 1.630" SAAMI spec. Therefore 0.007" + 1.630" = 1.637". :shotgun:

Oh yeah.... I forgot to mention... That M1907 sling installation is reversed or 180'ed. Swap your ends !! I could do a 2 hour clinic on shooting positions with the 1907 sling. Problem is: showing how to use the sling just cannot be accurately described on the internet or a book. It has to be a hands on proposition. :rolleyes:

The FN has it installed the "Army" way as you can see. The M1A has it installed the Marine (the reverse) way (or atleast my best imitation. :redface: ) as I never seen a picture of it installed "properly". :)

SAI guns when new from the factory get checked for head space, and dated before they leave the door, and this one checked out to 1.631". :D

Yes, I do actually. Bought this scope:

A German Hensoldt 4x24 Fero Z24 scope w/ Ballistic compensation for 7.62mm NATO ammunition on the elevation turret. Bought it off Ebay from Germany, Mount looks like its in Exc condition and the scope's wear is pretty much limited to the turrets and the areas it would bang around in inside that hard plastic case, I doubt it ever saw a days use in the "field, as well as the optics are very clear for a scope made/issued a year before I was born. :eek:

Going to get a Basset Machine M1913 style Mount once they become available and machine it to suit a NATO STANAG scope mounting set up. :)

Nope havn't taken her to the range, and I am stuck working Saturdays before I'll get a chance to go shooting with it so will have less time to do that. Need to figure out a way to fit it in. :(

Have to say I have never known a Marine who put his sling on backwards.
 
I see, was always told it was reversed, so first thing that came to mind was flipping the sling 180* as doing it with the frogs facing in can damage the stock. :p

I am hesitating to install a scope on my M1A at this moment. I like my NM sights but I don't say no for the future. My NA9102 too have those USGI parts and it is headspaced the same at 1.631". :cheers:
 
I liked the sights too. :)

But a scope will be nice for longer range shooting its only a 4x so its not too much power ether. :)

By the way the MA9102 is a standard model so you must have upgraded the sights I take it?? :)

No it's not the MA9102 but the NA9102, the National Match Walnut Stock carbon steel barrel.
