Ok so. I just got my M4A3.
Any suggestions as to what I should do to it.

Besides shoot the hell out of it!

Should I grease any parts or anything. Can I dry fire this thing or what.

Any suggestions as to some first steps.

thanks,

No grease on the M4! But be sure to generously lube up the bolt and carrier with CLP, or whatever light oil you're using for lube. Yes, you can also dry fire it. The majority of modern semi-autos are safe to dry fire.

Also, ignore the SIG comments. It's well documented that SIG owners are snobs who's s**t smells just as bad as the rest of ours :p

Clean it well before you do anything. If it's new it's likely got spray on preservative in the bore, etc. Clean it with solvent until you can see the bore is free of residue and your patches come out white.
Then lube er up and hit the range. Your gun should have come with a manual, read that too.
Welcome to the AR-15 club. :)

Learn how do to dissassemble it..... the do's and don'ts, and put the CLP to it.

Keep the face of the bolt where the firing pin sticks out, clean and free from excess oil.

Armalite A3 ??? Lets see some pics... !!!

:D sorry jraab/cancer...I can't help myself! (this is an old debate around here)

I use high temperature wheel bearing grease on my Stag. It handles high temps without sliding off and smoking and it is easy to see when it's time to just re-lube or when a real cleaning is needed. It also tends to encapsulate any metal debris and reduces it's ability to wear parts more readily than oil

Still oil on the trigger group tho...

Lube is a very personal thing...but then I didn't really have to tell you that did I?

So ill read up on it and giver a good cleaning and dab some lube on it.

hypothetically speaking if someone had some 30 round mags for these things. how would the gun handle a full 30 beaing shot non-stop? -not too fast but 30 rounds down range
would heating be a problem with putting the bullets where someone would want them?

Put it this way, the military uses 30 rd mags on Automatic fire and they don't have a problem.

The closest you'll get to that though would be to bumpfire a couple 10rd RRA AR15 Pistol mags in a row. Though, I wouldn't recomend that. Kind of a waste of ammo...

Wow, some of the advice...simply...Wow.

Grease is the best thing for an AR. Use it in the trigger mech, on the carrier, the bolt (not the face) and the buffer. Oil and clp just burn off where grease will still be good to go after a thousand rounds.

I don't get...

"would heating be a problem with putting the bullets where someone would want them?"

Do you mean will a hot barrel affect accuracy? Of course it will but it's not a precision rifle so megh.

You can burn the sh*t outa yourself on it though and I wouldn't leave a round in a hot chamber (2 - 3 mags) if I could help it.

30 rds No problem. that is what the rifle was made for. I would be more cautious of the little five rds one.

I nead more capicity !!!
