Ok so I got my new 700 sps varmint Friday morning and went to the range Friday afternoon. Before leaving the store I picked up and box of PMC .308 147g (I think, did not even look just wanted to try my new toy) and installed an old crappy scope I had lying around 4 x 32( I know its cheap but didn’t have any money left). I did run a couple patches down it frist to clean it up!

Here are my first picture posts so I hope the work, in general the grouping looks good to me since I have never shot .308 before Friday afternoon. But I sighted in at 25m and then moved to 100m.

I know I had a couple of wide shots, but the shoulder was starting to hurt :D

Looks like things came together at the end for you. I'm a beginner .308 shooter and I notice the same... At the beginning, it's hard to settle down and be consistent, then for the last 10 rounds, it's like I get into the zone and I keep hitting centre.

Looks like you have a 1 MOA shooter, but you might get things tighter as your technique improves. How are you shooting? Off a bipod? On a sandbag? Are you using a bag under the rear of the stock? Are you shooting off a bench? There are plenty of tips out there, but they depend on how you shoot...

Front end on bags and a bag under butt should work real well - can squeeze the butt bag to help with elevation changes. Front sandbag more stable then bipod but also remember to shoot the way you will in the field if thats where you're going with it. Can also put thin bag between butt plate and shoulder to reduce felt recoil provided length of pull allows. Congrats, looks like you have a shooter that you will enjoy.

I was shooting front end on sand bags and rear free floating on/in my shoulder

Good, that's why I was asking; keep it that way - keep the rear bag for the geezers ;)

In all seriousness, you should (in my opinion) first learn some marskmanship before relying too heavily on crutches. Once you feel you've gotten some consistency, then see what you can do with "aids".

Best of luck! :)
