Got my "PING" going for all the wrong reasons.

Meh ........... I still had a great day out at the range :)

Just want to make absolutely clear to all, my confidence in the " POS Norc " has not been dented.
This was down to ME, not the gun. The gun did exactly what it was supposed to do and directed the energy down the mag well away from me. Gotta love that safety feature.
Going to fix her up and have at it again, tho I might steer away from the Federal primers LOL.
Having said that, this is the first problem I've had and I'm inclined to think I didn't seat one deep enough. 1 in 500+...it was me not the primer.

Life's far too short to take it seriously..............so take a chance and have fun eh.
Just don't hurt anyone on the way :)

Might end up getting one of those fancy USGI bolts yet LMFAO...unless anybody wants to sell a Norc bolt :)

try goldenbb on here in the military rifle parts exchange....he has a norc bolt for sale....good guy...I bought some other parts from him.

it's well known here that I shoot nothing but federal blue box powershok 150gr in all my m14 type rifles and in a few thousand rounds, not a hiccup. I buy it by the case.
federal American eagle red box on the other hand...... I won't put anywhere near my m14 type rifles.

sounds like a high primer or temporarily stuck firing pin but we can all guess till the stars fall from the sky LOL
good thing yer okay and yer rifle's safety mechanisms did exactly what they should have and blown straight down.

Whats wrong with the AA red box?

Holy Fawk Batman,.......you survived a potential eye remover at the least or a throat carotid/jugular shrapnel life taker at the worst. Glad to hear you are alright and you are getting over your heart incident. I'm still off work myself after a heart attack, doing well and still shooting.
Thanks for posting this episode Lost, it's a great reminder to myself in particular and everyone in general to keep those GD shooting glasses on always,..Always!!!!

If it's misting out or sweat is running in my eye's, I been known to momentarily remove mine for a clearer sight picture for my old eyes, but this could happen at any freaking time.

Again good shooting and good luck rebuilding the Nork! RTS

Good to hear you are doing well RTS

Posted the pics because I was always one of those guys who thought it always happened to somebody else.
I checked and rechecked and still missed one.
Glasses are a MUST....always. Wish I had my ears on tho cos my ears are still ringing LOL

Replacement bolt is in the post right now ( thanks goldenbb) and the wife is even paying for it, she just wants me out of the house LOL.
Never felt the hits on my arm just saw the blood dripping off me fingers...damn blood thinners :).

Will post again when its rebuilt.
I bought a 1000 Federal primers and have used 6 packs out of the case with the one mishap. I am more than ever inclined to blame myself rather than the primer.
Still getting some CCI tho ..............just in case ( no pun intended ) LMFAO

Stay safe buddy and get even better.

Your experience just goes to show that the M305 is not a rifle for a beginner shooter. Even shooters with years of experience can get a big surprise. Glad yur Ok and U still got yur ears on. I do believe that your experience could happen to any one of us, that is those of us that roll our own rounds.

This incident that Lost had,.... along with my most recent reading of someone having an SKS fire out of battery with a round in left in the chamber and another round stripped and rammed into the primer of the first one causing death from the chambered case penetrating his torso,...has left me with a flinchy little eye tremor when I chambering the first round now in any of my autoloaders.

Just curious how this would happen?

If the first round didn't fire, then how does the bolt fly back? If the first round did fire, then there's no first round to go off.

The second round shouldn't fire, because the firing pin couldn't be hit by the hammer with the bolt all the way back far enough to fit a second round in there, and the bolt wouldn't likely have enough inertia to drive the firing pin into the primer and fire it, should there be a second round in the way.

Further to all of that, if the guy had one round chambered, then pulled the bolt back and it somehow left the first round in there, and it set the first round off, I still don't see how the round from the chamber went through his torso... maybe if he was holding it around his hip?

I feel like this is an internet myth? Or do you have a link to a report about it?

No trying to be a douche, it just sounds highly implausible.'

Edit:

Just looked it up. Seems the guy pulled the bolt back and the round in the chamber did not eject.

I think it's a highly unlikely scenario though - it seems like it probably did happen, but highly unlikely. I've seen rounds not fire, but if they don't fire, my experience is they don't fire the second time I try to fire them either. I'm sure that some do, just sayin'. But if I pulled the bolt back and didn't see a round eject, my first reaction is not going to be to drop the bolt again. My first reaction is going to be to look in the chamber, and see if it's empty. If it isn't, then I'm sure as hell going to make sure the mag is dropped before my hand leaves the bolt handle.

In fact, when a round got stuck in a bolt gun, for whatever reason it stayed in the chamber and the rim ripped off, that's exactly the kind of thing I did. No round ejected, hmmm... check chamber, yup, fired case still there, pull magazine, pull bolt, get case out. Given, it's a bolt gun, but I can't imagine just letting her go on a stuck round.

Not only that, how likely is it that an unfired round gets stuck in the chamber hard enough that the bolt/extractor won't pull it out?

My point here - it's a lot of coincidences.... highly unlikely, and certainly not something I'd personally "be afraid of" when on the range.

The out of battery misfire or the slam fire, yea, a little nervous about that sometimes I guess. Eyes on and double check my ammo, I guess, but it could happen to anyone, like it did to Lost.

I don't think this has much to do with shooting or reloading experience. While there are a number of possible causes for out of battery ignition nobody can state with certainty what the cause is or if it is always the same thing. Some very experienced shooters have had this happen with careful prep of ammo and rifle. There is however agreement on some things a person can do to possibly minimize the risk. That information is readily available and not difficult at all to apply. It hardly requires a university level understanding of the rifle or reloading.

Got my replacement bolt and a very handy "how to " link.

It needed a fair bit of lapping and finally came out +008 over a Forster Go gauge.
If my maths is any good that gives me 1.638...Correct ?
Next question....am I good to go?

Got CCI 200 and a crap load of Nato brass and a yearning too get back at er.

Cheers
And thanks goldenbb, all went well.
