Back off a grain or so?!

Wow, how many PSI is required to do that?

In my early years of reloading I'm had to beat a few bolts open with a block of wood but never seen anything like that.

Lucky you did that in a 700 Remington... if you can machine and pick out that brass, you may find everything is just fine...let us know...

PS - Don't use an angle grinder or a drill.

I got the pics off Facebook. Appears to support the three rings of steel theory.

Well there is no other 2 lug action that is a strong or as safe with catastrophic case failures...

I have seen a .303 British fired in a 700 7mm Rem Mag... the bullet exited the barrel, the bolt could not be opened. When the barrel was removed that allowed the bolt to be opened. The case had not ruptured, it had fire formed to fit the recesses and held. The front was deformed looking as the brass was considerably shorter than 7mm Mag brass. I had to pry the case from the bolt face and there was nothing wrong with the rifle... It shot fine after that episode. I lost that brass quite some years ago. This happened back about 1968.

A mixture of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide should take care of that brass and not harm the steel...no?

Were there any pictures of the barrel/action?

I collect pictures off the web of blown up actions, to see how they handle the pressure - but I have yet to see a blown up Remington 700.

That is because unaltered 700's do not blow up as other actions do. 3 rings of steel do work as originally advertised.

Well here’s one for your collection. From the same Facebook group. Is it a model 700 or a Christensen or?

Looks to have a sako type extractor...

Last time I saw a bolt nose filled with brass like that was when a R700 .22-.250 was fired with a steel rod in the barrel. The bullet stopped in the bore. The bolt was spoiled, the bolt nose was cracked. Receiver, stock, etc. were OK. I sent the barreled action back to Remington, they replaced it for $230.
The bolt in the photo with the wrecked receiver is cut for an extractor. I don't think that it is a Remington bolt; there are two gas vent holes in and just behind the head. Bolt body and bolt plug are fluted, so it was either reworked or a replacement. Don't know if it is a Remington receiver either. Might be, might be a clone. Extremely unusual for a 700 type action to be wrecked like that.
