Was originally thinking I would do it next year but I got persuaded by a bunch of local buddies who are set up with crossbows and blinds.

Helped that Sail had a 15% off sale last week.

Picked up:

- 2 person tree stand
- Excalibur Matrix 380 cross bow
- Broadheads
- Fancy extra arrows with a LED on the rear.
- Block black target for practise
- Few other things.

I always wondered why people bow hunt but around where I live the bow hunting season lasts a few months and shotgun is the only alternative and all you have is 5 days for shotgun.

Actually sort of did this just to have a place to hang out on the property for a couple of hours. Hoping to take my boys to the stand with me.

Bow feels real nice. Hope to sight it in this week.

Nice.

I just put my first ladder stand up yesterday. Definitely glad i went with a 2-man stand!
I was out Saturday morning and had a chance. . .at a Ruffed Grouse! Needless to say, I did not deploy the RAGE crossbow broadhead for the grouse. I now have a bolt tipped with a Montec SGH in the quiver.

I hope the stand means I will stop spooking the deer - I am getting good at spotting the flags, ha ha.

Good luck on the hunt!

I picked myself up some 150 grain Excalibur Tbolts (think thats what they are called); Excalibur recommends these with this bow I believe. I've heard great things about RAGE.

Wish I could still find Grouse around here.

Well, I wish that I could tell you how they do on deer, but I haven't gotten the chance! I also have some Grim Reapers that also have never touched a deer.

I sure do keep the mosquito population well fed though.

Thanks Jim. I was dissapointed to find out that there are no additional buck tags for the WMU where I live. I drew a deer tag for WMU 47- around where you are, as I plan to rifle hunt there. I guess I'll just hang out in the tree stand with that tag and practice this year on a target. Will be on the ball about getting into the controlled hunt draw in my home WMU next year.
