Was out today with a couple or 3 or more rifles, and decided to take along my F-class Ruger 77 factory wood, with Gaillard 1-13 twist 4 groove bull barrel 26 inchs. Had not shot it at 100 meters before. :D
Accuracy was amazing, with 168 match , 165 sierrs BT, 165 Nosler BT, all were perfect on windage, and only slightly enlarged the hole in the vertical. Like the size of a 45 cal hole in the vert. Thanks Ted for a great piece of work. :) And Sam adams for putting it together. :)
Also took out a light Anschutz sporter , with 4 power Redfield on it. This gun did not like the Dynapoints at all, 2 inches at 100 . The Wildcats shot inside 3/4 inch at 100. Took it back to 25 meters to set up for small game, and it was a one hole shooter, right on the money. Funny the Walther shot the Dynapoints excellent , just like the Anschutz and Wildcats. So it pays to play with cheap ammo eh! :D
The commercial mauser I got on EE shot 165 Noslers well under an inch, most 1/2 inch apart. Its an 06 with burris glass.
My little .223 remmy was a pain with factory ammo, gotta work on handloads, as it shoots those excellent. :)

I just ordered a 6mm barrel from Ted for one of my winter projects... I am anxious to see how it performs compared to the Smith barrels.

I totally agree with supporting home-grown craftsman!

On Saturday I had an interesting conversation with my 'smith about some home-grown barrels. (He's a barrel maker himself) He discovered by accident a year or two ago while trying to polish and fit a pilot to perfect dimensions , that the barrel (in question) was short-lapped, which resulted in the bore areas near the ends of the barrels being narrower than the middle by large enough of a margin that the chamber would have been cut crooked. Examination of other barrels from this maker revealed the same problem.

It wasn't a Smith or a Gaillard barrel...

Ted's barrel that he chambered and fit on my STW does not copper fowl. It did not need to be broken in at all. I did not get fowling after the first shot or even from the ten shot string I shot after cleaning after each of the first four shots.

My F-Class rifle (though I've never actually competed F-Class) is a 6.5 x 55 built on one of Mr. Gaillard's fine barrels. I agree that he make a truly outstanding, world-class barrel.
